PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Conor OShea (ranked 2412 p4p, 306 weight class) and William Scout (ranked 3849 p4p, 424 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor OShea!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, William Scout!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OShea closes this distance looking for a takedown but Scout circles away.
Scout stuffs the takedown attempt from OShea. OShea gets slowly back to his feet.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
A combination from OShea does no damage.

OShea closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - OShea lands in his opponent's guard.
Scout manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. OShea manages to get himself to full guard.

Scout wants to control from the top but OShea keeps moving.
Scout prevents OShea from getting back to his feet.
OShea will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
OShea keeping full guard, as Scout tries to pass.

OShea is looking to stand up but Scout isn't so interested in that idea.
OShea keeping moving, preventing Scout from controlling successfully.
OShea preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Scout stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. OShea swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Scout pushing down on OShea's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Scout throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Scout stops OShea from getting back to his feet.
Scout sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. OShea defending well though.
Scout stalling away here and it's allowed OShea to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
My spies in Five Round Fight Club NY (50 max) inform me that Scout has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Scout has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
OShea has Scout pulled in close to control his posture.
OShea preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Scout in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Scout smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

OShea looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
OShea is trying to control the action in half guard but Scout is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Scout is trying to get back to full guard.
Scout trying to hold on to OShea's head to control him but OShea postures up.
OShea wants to lay and pray for a moment but Scout keeps working.

OShea is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Scout sees it coming and defends easily.

OShea is trying to work for a kimura but Scout is defending well.
OShea really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Scout looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

OShea is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Scout is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scout is trying to control but can't.

OShea looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Scout is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Conor OShea will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


OShea tests Scout's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A right-left combo lands from OShea.


It looks like William Scout has been cut.
OShea bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
OShea fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Scout throws a combination but it was largely blocked by OShea.

OShea lands a big head kick that sends Scout tumbling to the mat! OShea takes a step backwards and waves Scout back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Scout is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
OShea shoots in and drives through. Scout sprawls well.
Scout is still on wobbly legs! Can OShea finish him?
OShea lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Scout head around and knocks him out cold! OShea hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Conor OShea!
In his post fight interview, Conor OShea started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
