PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sunray Spike (ranked 48 p4p, 1 weight class) and Hiro Manowaru (ranked 135 p4p, 6 weight class). Spike comes to the cage accompanied by For Heavy Metal we will die!. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sunray Spike!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hiro Manowaru!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Phil Schofield and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manowaru looks to score with a jab to the body but Spike is just out of range.
Spike misses with an attempted mid kick.
Manowaru appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Spike throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Manowaru.
Manowaru throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Manowaru throws a leg kick but Spike sees it coming and moves out of range.
Spike feints and then cracks Manowaru's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Manowaru down.
Spike throws a push kick but Manowaru slaps the foot to one side.
Sunray Spike seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spike throws a front kick that sends Manowaru stumbling back into the cage.
Manowaru drops his hands momentarily and Spike takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Both fighters circling a little - Spike finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Spike has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Spike throws the left hand but Manowaru avoids the punch easily.
Manowaru was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

And Manowaru responds with a good body kick, but Spike manages to step out the way in time.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Spike.
Spike throws a sloppy head kick and Manowaru moves out of range easily.
Manowaru pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Manowaru misses with a lunging right hand
and Spike counters with a body kick that stops Manowaru in his tracks momentarily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Manowaru counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Manowaru tries to work over Spike's front leg with a kick but Spike checks it.

Spike seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Spike loads up on a big right hand but Manowaru slips the punch.
Spike lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Manowaru keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Spike bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Manowaru takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Spike throws a low kick, looking for Manowaru's leg but Manowaru calmly moves out of range.

Manowaru has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Spike.

and Spike counters with a one-two to the body.
Spike ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Spike moves out of range as Manowaru throws a body kick.
It appears Spike was looking to counter with a kick there.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

The fighters circling - Manowaru throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Spike lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Manowaru at a distance.
Spike is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Manowaru can do to turn this around?

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Manowaru might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Spike has got the better of the exchanges.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sloppy strikes from Spike. Those never looked like landing.

Manowaru's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
