PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Reynard Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Wallhead (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim Wallhead will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Reynard Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Wallhead!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wallhead closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Davis looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Wallhead tries to stand but Davis is controlling his head.
Wallhead really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Davis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Davis is looking for a sweep.
Davis manages to get back to half guard.

Davis actively working from the bottom here.

Wallhead is keen to just control but Davis is a slippery customer.

Wallhead decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Wallhead shoots in for a double leg but Davis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Davis stuffs the takedown attempt from Wallhead. Wallhead gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Davis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wallhead is trying to control Davis's posture but Davis avoids it.

Davis looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Davis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wallhead has escaped the position, nice work there.
Davis creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Wallhead sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wallhead struggling a bit here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Davis lands a decent elbow from side control.

Davis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Wallhead tries to buck Davis off but Davis is having none of it.

Davis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wallhead has escaped the position, nice work there.

Davis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Davis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Wallhead explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

and Davis counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Reynard Davis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Wallhead.

Davis connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Davis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Reynard Davis dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wallhead shoots and misses

and Davis counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Davis wants to control from the top but Wallhead keeps moving.
Davis is looking to work some ground and pound but Wallhead has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wallhead manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Davis manages to get himself to full guard.

Wallhead gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Wallhead gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Davis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Davis.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Davis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Davis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Wallhead trying to control the position.
Davis trying to control the position from guard on top but Wallhead is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wallhead wants to get back to his feet but Davis is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Davis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Davis wants to control from the top but Wallhead keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wallhead wants to clinch

and Davis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Wallhead's guard.
Davis distracts Wallhead with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Wallhead wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Davis is trying to control. Wallhead wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Wallhead is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Davis jumps into side control!

Davis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wallhead, who protects the arm well.
Wallhead is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Davis is controlling him well.

Davis goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Wallhead rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Davis's guard! Nice work there by Wallhead!
Davis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Wallhead moves into the clinch.
Davis is trying to drag Wallhead to the mat but Wallhead just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Wallhead is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Wallhead drags the fight down to the ground.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Davis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Davis looking to sit in guard and control but Wallhead gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Wallhead would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Davis trying to keep a closed guard but Wallhead is proving a slippery customer.

Wallhead trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Davis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wallhead doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wallhead manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wallhead lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Davis looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Wallhead has picked Davis up and slammed him! Davis can't keep hold of the triangle and Wallhead manages to pass to side control!

Wallhead stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Davis looks for a takedown but Wallhead sprawls well.

Wallhead drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Davis manages to work his way to half guard, despite Wallhead's best efforts.

Davis looking for submissions off his back.
Wallhead is nestled in close to Davis, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Davis gets full guard.
Davis controls Wallhead momentarily but Wallhead frees himself.
Wallhead trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Davis looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Davis looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Wallhead puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Reynard Davis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Jim Wallhead comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
