PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lupe Mejia (ranked 7439 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kidd Finn (ranked 4279 p4p, 0 weight class). Finn is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Metallica - Hardwired. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kidd Finn was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lupe Mejia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kidd Finn!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the liver by Finn. Beautiful body shot.
Finn misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Finn wants to clinch.
Finn throws a leg kick but Mejia moved away.
It looked like Mejia was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Finn scores with a one two! Mejia had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Lupe Mejia has been cut.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Finn.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mejia stuffs the takedown attempt from Finn. Finn gets slowly back to his feet.
Mejia fakes the leg kick and cracks Finn in the body.

Finn pushes Mejia up against the cage in a clinch.
Mejia tries to pull guard but Finn holds him up against the cage and eventually Mejia drops back down to his feet.
Mejia jumps guard but Finn stands there with Mejia around his waist. Mejia gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mejia tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Finn smiles and moves away.
Finn will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Mejia seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Finn tries to clinch but Mejia is having none of it.

Finn fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mejia, pushing him back against the cage.
Mejia tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Finn just stands there and leans against the cage.

Finn closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Finn tries to break the clinch but Mejia is controlling the position.

Mejia is working an open guard so Finn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Finn throws a front kick aimed at Mejia's knee but Mejia avoids it well.
Mejia is looking for a counter combo.

Mejia gets tackled into the cage by Finn. Finn maintains the clinch.
Mejia is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Finn to keep the fight standing.
Finn wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mejia has him pressed against the cage.
Finn looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Finn lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Finn.

and Mejia counters with a good, hard body kick but Finn shrugs it off.
Finn shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Finn tries for a takedown but Mejia sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Finn swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Mejia appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Lupe Mejia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mejia is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Finn to keep the fight standing.
Mejia is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Finn gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Mejia jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Finn walks away with a smile on his face. Mejia gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Finn cracks Mejia with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Kidd Finn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Finn throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mejia.
Mejia finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

As Finn looks to move away, Mejia throws a big counter combo but Finn just gets out of the way.
The fight stays on the outside here - Finn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mejia is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Finn has escaped the position, nice work there.
Finn is looking for a sweep.

Kidd Finn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A left and a right from Mejia both land. Nice combination.

Finn lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Finn not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Finn shoots in for a double leg but Mejia sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Finn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Finn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Kidd Finn is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lupe Mejia showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Finn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Kidd Finn decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
