And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cristobal Los Escos!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Dean Styles and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donk. Rutten catches Los Escos right on the button with a cross.
Rutten lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Los Escos shoots in and bounces Rutten off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Los Escos stands up over Rutten, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Los Escos connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rutten trying to keep a closed guard but Los Escos is proving a slippery customer.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Los Escos slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Rutten had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Los Escos defends it easily.
Los Escos lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Rutten has his foot on Los Escos's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Los Escos works his way back into a safe position though.

Los Escos gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Los Escos closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Los Escos is looking for a kimura but Rutten is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Los Escos to get the leverage.
Los Escos seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Los Escos stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Los Escos shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rutten's guard.
Rutten is looking to stand back up but Los Escos counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Rutten.

Rutten tries to get to full guard but Los Escos has control of the leg.
Los Escos winds up and cracks Rutten with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Los Escos is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rutten trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Los Escos manages to pass to mount!

Rutten could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The referee warns Rutten that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rutten keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's time! Rutten's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Rutten can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Los Escos controls the pace.
Los Escos wants to get up but he can't break Rutten's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rutten enables Los Escos to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rutten manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Los Escos is in close to Rutten's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Rutten wants to get back to his feet but Los Escos passes into half guard.

Rutten tries to kick Los Escos off in order to stand up. Los Escos Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Los Escos decides to stand back up. Los Escos steps back and let's Rutten get back to his feet.
Rutten lands with a straight right. Los Escos didn't see that one coming.
Los Escos gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Rutten.
Rutten scores with the left hand. Los Escos knows he should have avoided that one.

Los Escos shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Los Escos showed some decent athleticism there.

Los Escos is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Let's hope that Los Escos has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rutten gets caught napping as Los Escos dives in and scores a takedown. Rutten manages to retain guard.

Los Escos is taking a breather. Rutten says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Los Escos looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rutten with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Rutten is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Los Escos scores with a couple of nice shots.

Rutten is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Los Escos's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Los Escos's back!

Los Escos tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Los Escos can do anything to dispel that myth.

Los Escos is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
