PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kick Boxer (ranked 108 p4p, 16 weight class) and Sparky Anderson (ranked 695 p4p, 87 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 50 - 22 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kick Boxer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boxer swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Anderson.
Boxer with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Anderson to score with a decent uppercut.
Anderson digs a good body shot into Boxer's ribs.
Anderson misses with a hook
and Boxer counters with a thumping low kick.
Boxer throws a push kick but Anderson slaps the foot to one side.
Anderson works the jab nicely.
Anderson scores with a jab. Boxer acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Anderson works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Boxer pushes Anderson away with a front kick.
Anderson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Boxer feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Anderson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Anderson moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Anderson fails with the takedown.
Anderson attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Boxer throwing a counter right hand but Anderson manages to avoid it.
Boxer has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Boxer gets caught flat footed, as Anderson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Anderson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Anderson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Anderson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Anderson drops back looking for a leg! Boxer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boxer manages to kick Anderson off! Anderson jumps back into Boxer's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boxer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Anderson wants to control from the top but Boxer keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Anderson connects with a couple of short punches.
Anderson trying to control but Boxer is working from the bottom.
Anderson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Boxer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Anderson on the ground.

Anderson throwing strikes but missing.
Anderson postures up in Boxer's guard and throws a big left but Boxer blocks it.

Boxer has momentary wrist control but Anderson slips an elbow through the middle.

Anderson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Boxer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Anderson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Boxer is keeping the position for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boxer steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Anderson.
It looked like Boxer wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Anderson looks to land a combination but Boxer avoids it well.
Boxer quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Anderson scores with a hook to the body. Boxer takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Anderson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The fighters circling - Boxer throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Anderson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Boxer throws a sloppy head kick and Anderson moves out of range easily.
Boxer has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Anderson finds it's way round the side to connect with Boxer's head.
Boxer throws a low kick but Anderson moves out of range easily.
Anderson now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Boxer pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Kick Boxer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Anderson punishes Boxer's body with a nice straight punch.
Boxer misses with a body kick.
Boxer is looking to land body kicks.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Boxer fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Anderson on the side of the head.
Anderson lands a jab.
Anderson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Boxer loads up on a big right hand but Anderson slips the punch.
Anderson lands with an uppercut that bounces Boxer off the cage and back into range.
Anderson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Boxer doesn't seem bothered though.
Anderson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sparky Anderson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Anderson walks into a stiff left hand from Boxer.
Anderson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Boxer tries to clinch up but Anderson circles away and keeps his distance.
A jab from Boxer misses.
Boxer misses with a kick to the body.
Boxer connects with a nice looking jab.
Sparky Anderson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Boxer connects with a good right hand that stumbles Anderson. Anderson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Sparky Anderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boxer takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Boxer tries to clinch but Anderson moves out of range.
Anderson wants to land a leg kick but Boxer is out of range.

Boxer clinches with his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anderson jumps guard and drags Boxer to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Anderson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Boxer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Anderson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Anderson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Boxer should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Anderson has tightened it up now! Boxer should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Sparky Anderson!
Sparky Anderson got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
