Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bart Cubbedge !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joao Silvera!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silvera works Cubbedge 's body with a nice hook.
A jab from Silvera misses.
Cubbedge dives in and grabs Silvera's left leg, looking for a takedown. Silvera pushes down on Cubbedge 's head and hops out.
Joao Silvera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silvera rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cubbedge moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A nice combination there by Silvera.
Cubbedge uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Silvera.
Silvera avoids a kick to the body.

Cubbedge shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Silvera manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Cubbedge passes Silvera's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Cubbedge drops an elbow to the side of Silvera's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cubbedge wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silvera keeps working.
Silvera has hold of Cubbedge 's hands but Cubbedge slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Silvera felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Silvera tries to kick Cubbedge off but Cubbedge keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Cubbedge is working for a kimura but Silvera is defending it quite comfortably.

Silvera is refusing to be controlled, as Cubbedge sits in half guard.
Silvera wants to get back to his feet.
Silvera is trying to escape back to his feet but Cubbedge uses the scramble to pass into side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cubbedge throws an elbow but Silvera slips to the side and avoids it well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Silvera is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cubbedge is controlling him well.
Cubbedge has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Silvera tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Silvera really wants to buck Cubbedge off and get back to his feet.
We've been hearing good reports from Cubbedge 's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Cubbedge is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Silvera to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Silvera shrugs it off.

Cubbedge working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Silvera turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Cubbedge off and cradles Silvera's limp body as Cubbedge celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Bart Cubbedge !
