PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Aleksey Viktorov (ranked 5778 p4p, 383 weight class) and Bakkes Ackerman (ranked 2147 p4p, 211 weight class). Viktorov's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Lyube - Davay Za. Ackerman comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Da' Vat Hy! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Bakkes Ackerman will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aleksey Viktorov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Bakkes Ackerman!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Viktorov closes the distance and clinches.

Viktorov gets control of Ackerman's arms and successfully pulls guard. Viktorov will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Ackerman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ackerman is looking to work some ground and pound but Viktorov has wrist control.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Ackerman working his ground and pound in the gym.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Ackerman might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Viktorov haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Viktorov looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Ackerman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Viktorov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ackerman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Viktorov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ackerman defends it easily.

Viktorov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ackerman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ackerman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Viktorov tries to lock up and control but Ackerman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ackerman wants to control the pace but Viktorov is squirming around nicely.

Ackerman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Viktorov can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ackerman has hold of Viktorov's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Viktorov manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Viktorov wants to control but Ackerman is having none of it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Viktorov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ackerman swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Ackerman is trying to trip Viktorov. He has hold of a leg but Viktorov is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ackerman persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Viktorov has his feet on Ackerman's thighs here. He's pushed Ackerman off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Ackerman screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Aleksey Viktorov seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
