PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Elmore James (ranked 683 p4p, 85 weight class) and Katu Partio (ranked 308 p4p, 39 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Katu Partio!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nice body kick from Partio.
Partio plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
James moves out of range of the body kick from Partio.
A counter left hand to the body from James misses its target.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from James, right into the meat.
James throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Partio will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
James slips under a jab from Partio.
James fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
James stuns Partio with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Partio connects with a nice looking jab.
Partio takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

James has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Partio.
Partio throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as James checks a leg kick.
A little feinted left hand from James on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
James takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
A left lands for James.
James just misses with a punch to the body.
James rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Partio moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
James takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Partio lands a nice shot that snaps James's head back.
James throws an overhand right that lands on Partio's shoulder, as Partio tries to avoid the shot.
James avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
A little feinted left hand from James on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
James shoots in looking for a takedown but Partio manages to keep the fight standing, pushing James's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Partio darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

James fails to land with a series of punches.
Partio avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Partio stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
We've been hearing reports that James has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Partio throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Partio feints and then cracks James's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow James down.
Partio connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Partio moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Partio walks into a stiff left hand from James.
James takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Partio lands a head kick. James smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Partio has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Partio gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Partio looking to hit a scissor sweep but James is one step ahead there.

James postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Partio is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of James, into his guard.

James escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Partio gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

James had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Partio defends it easily.
Partio is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Katu Partio dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Partio scores with a kick to the body.
James lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

It looks like Katu Partio has been cut.

Partio is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Partio punishes James's body with a nice straight punch.
James tries for a takedown but Partio sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Partio lands a really nice looking cross but James seems unphased.
That kick from Partio tenderised James's leg. James is trying to keep his angry face on.

James shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than James was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Partio is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

James is trying to work for a kimura but Partio is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Partio is just riding it out for now. James eventually gives up the hold.

Partio gets full guard.
Partio has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Partio has his feet on James's thighs here. He's pushed James off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! James screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

A less than humble Katu Partio misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
