PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kamerun Diaz (ranked 855 p4p, 120 weight class) and Peter Batts (ranked 774 p4p, 108 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by Beast in Black - Ghost in the Rain. Batts has chosen Midnight City - By: M83 as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kamerun Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Batts!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batts avoids the body shot from Diaz.
Batts throws an overhand right that lands on Diaz's shoulder, as Diaz tries to avoid the shot.
Batts swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Batts will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Diaz seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Batts on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Batts avoids them all with ease.
Peter Batts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Batts fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Diaz manages to avoid it.

Diaz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Batts moves away.

Batts throws a lazy right hand but Diaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Batts bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Diaz lands with a nice combination. Batts backs away looking to recover.
Batts connects with a solid leg kick.
Batts checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Diaz throws a body punch but Batts moves out of range.

Batts is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Diaz.

Diaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Batts is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Diaz's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Batts is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Batts is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Diaz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Diaz's back!

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Batts working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Diaz on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Batts looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Diaz with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Batts postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Diaz looks a forlorn figure.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Diaz can't keep his opponent in guard - Batts advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Batts seems to be working for a kimura but Diaz defends the submission attempt.
Diaz wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Peter Batts will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Batts preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Batts is looking to control Diaz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Batts avoid being mounted?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kamerun Diaz dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Batts throws out a loose jab but Diaz uses good head movement to avoid it.

It seemed like Batts was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Good leg kick by Batts there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Batts.

Batts swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Batts gets caught flat footed, as Diaz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Batts is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Batts pulls Diaz in close to prevent any damage.
Diaz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Diaz looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Batts is avoiding damage well.
Batts regains half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz is nestled in close to Batts, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Diaz moves nicely into side control.

Batts is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Diaz off and has taken his back!

Batts lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Batts.

Batts is trying to stick to Diaz's back but Diaz is turning into Batts. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Batts's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Diaz.

Diaz is in close to Batts's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Batts keeps moving.
Batts controls Diaz momentarily but Diaz frees himself.

Kamerun Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diaz content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Batts is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Batts keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.
Batts wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Diaz is now in half guard.
Diaz wants to take a breather but Batts is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kamerun Diaz.
Well Diaz has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Kamerun Diaz decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
