PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Song (ranked 3146 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Andrade (ranked 5160 p4p, 0 weight class). Song has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The key to victory for Samuel Song has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Samuel Song!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Leo Andrade!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Bart Greer and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Song avoids the head kick by Andrade.

Andrade feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Andrade trying to control but Song is working from the bottom.
Andrade content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Andrade wants to control from the top but Song keeps moving.

Song wants to improve his position but instead Andrade has moved into half guard.

Song is trying to stand up here but Andrade is controlling him well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Song has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Andrade is working away from the top position though.
Andrade looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Andrade is taking a breather. Song says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Andrade is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Song sees it coming and defends easily.

Andrade is looking for a kimura but Song is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Andrade to get the leverage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Song fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Song looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Andrade looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Andrade circles away from the clinch attempt.
Song gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Andrade counters with a two punch combo.
Song is breathing heavily.

Andrade shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Andrade bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Andrade tries to counter with a clinch but Song shakes him off and moves away.

Andrade is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Song's half guard.
Andrade is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Song is looking to control Andrade's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Song avoid being mounted?

Andrade is pressing down on Song's thigh, looking to free his foot. Song is holding on for now.
Song is staying active underneath Andrade, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Andrade is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Andrade really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Song. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Andrade throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Song trying to stall but Andrade improves his position.
Song is trying to pull guard but Andrade has him pressed against the cage.

Andrade has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Song clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Andrade just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Andrade controlling well, preventing Song from escaping the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Andrade is looking to control Song but Song is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Andrade softening up his opponent with strikes here.
Song tries to escape but Andrade has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Song staying busy and making it hard for Andrade to control.
Andrade has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Song is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Song is trying to get back to his feet but Andrade has full control of the position and if anything, Song has just worked his way into a worse spot.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Song rolls, trying to escape but Andrade keeps control of the position.
Song wants to control his opponent's hands but Andrade gets his hands free.

Andrade is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Song knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Song for a finish.
Andrade tries to get the hooks in deep but Song pushed the leg off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Andrade has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Song's body.
Song tries to roll but Andrade sticks to his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leo Andrade showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Andrade has hold of one of Song's legs. Song is fighting the takedown attempt but Andrade gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Song has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Andrade off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Song is looking to score with low kicks.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Song enables Andrade to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Song manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Andrade trying to control the position from guard on top but Song is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Andrade pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Song is keeping the position for now.

Song throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Andrade has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Song is proving hard to escape from.

Andrade's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Song keeping moving, preventing Andrade from controlling successfully.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Song darts in looking for a takedown but Andrade gets double underhooks and turns Song into the cage.
Song takes a swing at Andrade's ribcage but misses.

Andrade shoots in and gets a takedown into Song's guard.

Song scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Song shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Andrade's guard.
Andrade bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Song's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Song wants to sweep but no luck.

Andrade avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Andrade controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Leo Andrade.
Well Andrade has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
