PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Quim Pinto (ranked 5294 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Mancer (ranked 5292 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Quim Pinto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Mancer!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Pinto closes the distance and clinches.
Pinto lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Mancer goes for a takedown attempt but Pinto pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Mancer crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Pinto - the referee stops the clock and Mancer gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Pinto. Mancer manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
A decent looking cross lands there for Pinto.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mancer is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Mancer chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Pinto can pounce on him.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Pinto cracks Mancer with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Pinto scores with a nice head shot.
A lazy left from Pinto finds it's target.
Mancer walks forward, straight into a front kick from Pinto.

Pinto closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mancer's guard.
Mancer keeping moving, preventing Pinto from controlling successfully.
Pinto has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mancer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pinto wants to stand but Mancer is controlling his posture from full guard.

Mancer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Mancer has control of Pinto's left arm, preventing Pinto from doing any damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Mancer takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Pinto catches Mancer with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pinto will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mancer wants to counter the offense by Pinto and move into the clinch position.
Good standup being displayed there by Pinto as he connects with a hook.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pinto throws out a powerful jab.
Pinto comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quim Pinto dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pinto throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Mancer's head.
Pinto ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Pinto lunges at Mancer with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Mancer's hand.
Pinto throws a quick inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pinto lands a lovely overhand right.

Pinto clinches up with Mancer and pushes him back against the cage.

Mancer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pinto is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mancer to the mat. Mancer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Mancer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pinto's guard.

Pinto is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pinto is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mancer can do to turn this around?
Mancer not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Mancer works over Pinto with some ground and pound from guard.
Mancer won't allow Pinto to get back to his feet.
Mancer controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Pinto is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Pinto throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mancer feints the counter takedown.

Pinto dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Mancer. That did some damage!

Mancer is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Pinto lands a body shot.

Pinto throws a hook but Mancer blocks it.
Pinto connects with an inside leg kick.
Nice uppercut there from Pinto.
Pinto cracks Mancer with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mancer doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Pinto shoots in and gets a takedown into Mancer's guard.
Mancer pulls Pinto in close to prevent any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mancer is on top in guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Pinto is looking to stand up but Mancer isn't so interested in that idea.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Mancer's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mancer stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Pinto.
Quim Pinto is winning the standup battle so far.
Pinto paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Pinto lands a head kick!
Quim Pinto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pinto cracks Mancer with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Mike Mancer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mancer moves forwards but Pinto connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Pinto fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mancer has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Pinto ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Pinto clinches.

Mancer gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Mancer lands a couple of elbows.
Mancer working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Mancer distracts Pinto with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mancer postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Pinto has momentary wrist control but Mancer slips an elbow through the middle.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Quim Pinto.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pinto, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
