Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Williams!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velasquez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Velasquez lands in his opponent's guard.
Velasquez throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Velasquez pushes down on Williams's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Velasquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Velasquez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Williams can do anything to dispel that myth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams wants to get back to full guard.

Velasquez blocks the strikes from Williams.
Velasquez with the ground and pound but Williams uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Velasquez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Williams throws a right hand that Velasquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Velasquez also avoids with ease.

Velasquez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Williams's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Williams wants to stand up but Velasquez is controlling him.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Velasquez is in close to Williams's body, working some short punches and elbows.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A big left from Williams misses.
Horrible takedown by Velasquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Williams which made him look bad.

Williams tries to work over Velasquez's front leg with a kick but Velasquez checks it.
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Williams but Williams pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Williams rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Velasquez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Velasquez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Williams.
Velasquez throws a head kick that half lands.

Williams throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Velasquez sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Williams fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Velasquez manages to avoid it.

Williams lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Williams lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Velasquez circles away quickly and effectively.

Williams throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Velasquez dodges the punch combination from Williams.
Velasquez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Donk. Williams catches Velasquez right on the button with a cross.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Velasquez - that will leave a mark!
Kain Velasquez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Williams throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Williams swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
No luck for Velasquez with that takedown attempt.

Velasquez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Williams looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Velasquez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Williams is looking for a sweep.

Velasquez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Williams knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Velasquez working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Williams is looking to reverse the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Williams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Velasquez shoots for a double leg takedown but Williams sprawls well. He's pushed Velasquez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Velasquez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rob Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Rob Williams is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Velasquez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Velasquez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Velasquez controls from within his opponent's guard.
Velasquez tries to free his leg and advance position but Williams is retaining full guard.
Velasquez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Kain Velasquez just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Williams slips a jab and a cross from Velasquez.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kain Velasquez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Williams has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
