PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jarrod Sellers (ranked 5334 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor McGregor (ranked 3350 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jarrod Sellers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Conor McGregor!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGregor clinches.
Sellers fails to pull the fight into his guard.
McGregor lands with a short shot to the head.

McGregor manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
McGregor striking off his back, scoring a few points.
Sellers throws an elbow that misses. McGregor uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sellers's guard. Nice move by McGregor!

McGregor controls from within his opponent's guard.
McGregor in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sellers will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sellers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McGregor gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sellers has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McGregor slips nicely into half guard.

Sellers pushes McGregor off looking to stand but McGregor dives back in and keeps control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Sellers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McGregor takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that McGregor has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Sellers has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but McGregor is on him like a limpet, forcing Sellers back against the cage.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jarrod Sellers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sellers jumps guard but McGregor turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
McGregor is pushing Sellers up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Sellers tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

McGregor has Sellers pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. McGregor pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sellers tumbling to the mat - McGregor dives into Sellers's guard.

McGregor must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sellers wants to stand up but McGregor is controlling him.

McGregor got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sellers has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McGregor has managed to get both his arms back between Sellers's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McGregor slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
McGregor postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
McGregor is stalling in the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
It looks like McGregor might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Conor McGregor dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


McGregor lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Sellers at a distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Sellers breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sellers fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
McGregor tries a quick counter leg kick but Sellers is wise to it.

McGregor clinches with his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGregor blocks a body shot from Sellers.

McGregor lands a takedown into guard.
McGregor controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McGregor lands a couple of elbows.

McGregor stands and steps away. Sellers gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
McGregor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McGregor changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sellers looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
McGregor cracks Sellers with an elbow. That is naaassty.
McGregor tries to advance to mount but Sellers denies him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McGregor thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Sellers tries to buck McGregor off but McGregor is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McGregor cracks Sellers with a big right hand but Sellers just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.


Sellers is rocked!

McGregor is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Sellers looks calm but he's in trouble here. McGregor gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Sellers is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! McGregor lets go of the hold and Sellers can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Conor McGregor!
