Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Yoel Mir!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rosco Ladd!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ladd takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Mir tries to clinch there but Ladd circles away.
Mir connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Ladd is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Ladd misses with the combination.
Mir takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Ladd throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mir stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Ladd throws a shot from downtown. Mir moves away and avoids it.
Mir thumps Ladd with a low kick.
Ladd misses with a body shot.
Mir uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ladd.
Mir ducks under a wild hook from Ladd.
Ladd throws a lazy uppercut
and Mir counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sloppy strikes from Ladd. Those never looked like landing.
Mir looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Mir feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Ladd's calf.
Ladd swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ladd misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ladd scores with a jab.
Mir throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ladd thuds a left hand into Mir's body.
Mir misses with a body kick.
It seemed like Ladd was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ladd tries to move into range but Mir moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Ladd takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
A looping hook to the body misses from Ladd. Mir does a little dance to reset his feet.

Ladd misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mir.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ladd crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mir - the referee stops the clock and Ladd gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mir. Ladd manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Mir closes the distance and clinches.
Ladd swings wildly with an uppercut but Mir uses good head movement to avoid it.

A frustrated look appears on Ladd's face as he tries to break the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ladd's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Mir tries a body shot but Ladd blocks it.
Mir lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Mir lands with a left to the head.
Mir lands a knee to the body.
Mir lands with a light punch inside.
Mir creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Ladd's defenses.
Ladd has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Mir seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Ladd can turn it around.
Mir lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Mir creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Ladd's defenses.
Ladd is still on wobbly legs! Can Mir finish him?

Mir throws a big uppercut that drops Ladd! More strikes from Mir and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Ladd lies dazed against the cage as Mir celebrates with his cornermen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Yoel Mir!
Yoel Mir is the new middleweight champion!
Yoel Mir decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
