PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jackie Daniels (ranked 5691 p4p, 0 weight class) and Popeye Theeh (ranked 5654 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jackie Daniels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Popeye Theeh!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Atkins and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daniels shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Theeh sprawls well. Theeh wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Daniels gets slowly back to his feet.
Theeh fails with an attempt to clinch.
Daniels fails with the takedown.
Daniels shoots in but no luck this time.
Theeh throws a counter combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jackie Daniels. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Daniels tries to close the distance and clinch up but Theeh swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Theeh feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Theeh seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Daniels is trying to control the position but Theeh postures up.

Theeh passes into half guard.
Theeh prevents Daniels from improving his position.
Theeh lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Daniels is trying to stand.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Theeh slows the pace down in half guard.
Daniels is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Theeh tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Daniels.
Daniels is trying to stand back up but Theeh is controlling him

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Theeh lands a nice short elbow.

Theeh decides to stand and escape the position.
Daniels could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Theeh thows a left - swing and a miss!
Daniels changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Theeh tries to avoid it but Daniels manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Theeh to the ground. Theeh escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Daniels is breathing heavily.
Daniels throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Theeh's waist but Theeh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Daniels off to one side.
Theeh wants to counter with a clinch but Daniels pushes him away.

Theeh darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Theeh is trying to work for a kimura but Daniels is defending well.
Theeh is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Theeh scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Theeh lands with a punch from half guard.
Theeh is controlling the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Popeye Theeh dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A combination from Theeh does no damage.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Daniels. Theeh shrugs it off though.
Jackie Daniels is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Daniels connects with a leg kick. Theeh looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Nice sprawl there from Theeh as Daniels shoots in.
Theeh will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Daniels tries to score a power double leg takedown but Theeh sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Daniels somewhat.
Theeh has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Theeh looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Daniels with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Daniels tries to kick Theeh off but Theeh keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Popeye Theeh has got the better of the ground game so far.
Theeh wants to stand but Daniels has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Theeh controlling the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Theeh is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Daniels wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Theeh fails in his attempt to clinch.
Daniels throws a big counter combination but Theeh scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Daniels gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Theeh engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Daniels can't keep his opponent in guard - Theeh advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Theeh looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Theeh passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Daniels!
Theeh lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Theeh controlling from the full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Popeye Theeh showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Daniels gets caught flat footed, as Theeh shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Daniels controls Theeh momentarily but Theeh frees himself.
Theeh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Daniels. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Theeh engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Let's hope that Theeh has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Theeh lands a couple of elbows.
Theeh content to stall in guard here.
Theeh passes Daniels's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Well, if Theeh is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Theeh slips a nice elbow through Daniels's hands, connecting with Daniels's forehead.
Daniels is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Theeh is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Theeh is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Theeh wants to free his trapped foot but Daniels is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Daniels is trying to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Theeh content to control rather than advance.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Daniels digs a good body shot into Theeh's ribs.
Theeh tries to close the distance and clinch up but Daniels swats him away and circles back towards the center.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Daniels tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Theeh fails with an attempt to clinch.
Theeh throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Theeh circles away from the clinch attempt.
Theeh fails to land with a series of punches.
Theeh looks to land a left hand but Daniels moved out of range nicely.

Popeye Theeh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Theeh has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
