PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Koh Ibu (ranked 43 p4p, 7 weight class) and Pa‘Akea Built (ranked 115 p4p, 17 weight class). Built has chosen Hawaiian War Chant as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ibu waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Built.
Built jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Built takes a swing at Ibu's ribcage but misses.
Built lands a lovely overhand right.

It looks like Koh Ibu has been cut.
Ibu avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Built throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Built goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Ibu tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Built was well out of range. Poor timing from Ibu.
And Built responds with a good body kick, but Ibu manages to step out the way in time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Built misses with a low kick.
Ibu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ibu throws a leg kick but Built moved away.
Built swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Built throws a half hearted mid kick.
Built waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ibu.
Ibu tries to close the distance and clinch but Built swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nice body punch from Built.
Ibu scores with a nice body kick.
Ibu looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Built throws out a loose jab but Ibu uses good head movement to avoid it.
Ibu thows a body kick. Built tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Ibu throws a leg kick but Built sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Built stuns Ibu with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Ibu takes one to the side of the head.
Ibu looks to score with a jab to the body but Built is just out of range.
Built swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Built connects with an inside leg kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Built misses with an uppercut. Ibu saw that one coming.
Built misses with a wild body shot.
Ibu throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Ibu clinches with his opponent.
Ibu stalls.
Nice body punch from Ibu - that landed with a thud.
Ibu gets through Built's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
I was talking to Ibu's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Built.
Ibu lands an uppercut.
Ibu doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Still in the clinch, Built scores with a nice short uppercut.

Built breaks from the clinch.
Built swings for the body but Ibu moves out of range.
Built is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Built connects with a nice looking jab.

Ibu is rocked!
Ibu throws a hook but Built blocks it.
Oh Ibu is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ibu get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Ibu stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Built runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!
