PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Scuba Chris (ranked 1086 p4p, 52 weight class) and Ace Rob (ranked 2068 p4p, 108 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Scuba Chris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ace Rob!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rob on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Chris. Chris obviously looking to wear him down.
Chris on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Chris connects with a looping right hand.
Chris throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rob misses with an uppercut.
A lazy left from Rob finds it's target.
Rob shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Chris counters with a stiff right hand.
Chris rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rob moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Chris throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Chris keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rob.

and Rob counters with a shoot takedown. Chris fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rob postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Chris holds on and takes a little breather.
Chris looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rob is one step ahead there.
Rob wants to control from the top but Chris keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rob is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chris defends it well.
Chris wants to get back to full guard.
Rob wants to control but Chris is keeping him busy.

Rob has control of Chris's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chris regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Rob is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Chris can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Chris is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Ace Rob dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Chris looks to land a body kick but Rob moved away.
Rob uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Chris connects with a solid leg kick.
Chris misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Chris cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Chris has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rob finds it's way round the side to connect with Chris's head.

Chris connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

and Chris counters with a series of strikes. Rob will be more careful next time no doubt.
Rob gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Chris looks to land a combination but Rob avoids it well.
No joy there for Chris, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rob has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Chris throws a series of punches but Rob avoids them all with ease.

and Chris counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Chris cracks a nice hook into Rob's ribs.
Chris tries to bum rush Rob with a series of wild strikes but Rob uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Chris lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Chris throws a head kick that misses.

Rob cracks Chris with a right hand to the side of the head.
Rob is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Chris.
Chris's corner calls for a 1-2. Chris obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Chris is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rob is aware though and is defending well.
Rob won't allow Chris to get back to his feet.

That was a close second round but I would say that Scuba Chris will probably get the nod.
That's time! Chris's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

The fighters circle momentarily. Rob darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Rob takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Chris lands a really nice looking cross but Rob seems unphased.

Chris will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Rob counters with a nice double leg into side control. Chris won't be happy with that.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rob advances nicely into full mount.

Rob looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Chris is squirming around, avoiding Rob's attempts to control the action.

Chris is rocked!
Ace Rob has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rob postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Chris badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Rob around the waist but Rob pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Rob is the winner by TKO! Rob jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ace Rob!
An out of breath Ace Rob thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
