PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rodolfo Vazquez (ranked 7983 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Cage (ranked 5357 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos Cage will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rodolfo Vazquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Carlos Cage!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cage tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Vazquez tries to counter by clinching up but Cage breaks away and moves out of range.
Cage lands with a cross.
Cage cracks Vazquez with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Vazquez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Despite the aggression on Cage's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Vazquez takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Cage throws a combination that misses

and Vazquez counters with a shoot takedown. Cage fights it but they end up in guard.
Vazquez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Cage throws a fast counter high kick but Vazquez manages to duck under it in time.

Vazquez tries to clinch up but Cage circles away and keeps his distance.

Cage is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Cage feints a jab promting Vazquez to slip. Cage then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Vazquez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Cage lands a nice looking kick to the body. Vazquez takes a step back to recover.

Vazquez feints and as Cage raises his hands in defense, Vazquez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Vazquez is breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cage is looking to stand up but Vazquez isn't so interested in that idea.
Vazquez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Vazquez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Vazquez prevents Cage from getting back to his feet.
Cage avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Vazquez won't allow Cage to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Carlos Cage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cage throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Vazquez has managed to clinch.
Cage wants to break the clinch but can't.
Vazquez dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Vazquez is trying to drag Cage to the mat but Cage just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Cage has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Vazquez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cage is just riding it out for now. Vazquez eventually gives up the hold.

A close round but Carlos Cage will probably get the nod.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vazquez throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Rodolfo Vazquez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Vazquez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cage has escaped the position, nice work there.

Vazquez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Vazquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vazquez misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Cage bucks up and tries to throw Vazquez off but instead Vazquez has got his back!

Vazquez has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Cage has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

As Cage tries to get set, Vazquez tries to push him back and clinch up but Cage manages to avoid the attempt.

Cage throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Cage will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Vazquez has Cage pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Vazquez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cage tumbling to the mat - Vazquez dives into Cage's guard.
