The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nunes as he avoids it easily.

Machida feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nunes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Machida is controlling him.
Nunes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Machida. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Nunes pushes Machida off looking to stand but Machida dives back in and keeps control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

You get the feeling that Nunes really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Machida seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nunes for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Yoto Machida just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Machida fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Nunes is out of range.
