PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrew May (ranked 5750 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xephos Coronado (ranked 5769 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andrew May!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Xephos Coronado!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coronado throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

May gets caught flat footed, as Coronado shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Coronado not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Coronado working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

May working for a triangle but Coronado defends it easily.

May looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Coronado passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Coronado content to control rather than advance.

Coronado thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Coronado decides to stand up.
Xephos Coronado seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
May blocks a head kick by Coronado.
May tries to clinch up.

Coronado gets to his feet. May looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

May tries to buck Coronado off but Coronado is having none of it.

May wants to get back to his feet but Coronado drags him back down.
May is looking for a sweep.

Coronado is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down May's shoulder. That is not cool.

Coronado has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

May wants to clinch up but Coronado keeps it at a distance.
May showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Coronado.
May drops down looking for a counter takedown but Coronado sprawls and moves away.

Coronado changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. May looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
May is breathing heavily.
Coronado tries to move to mount but May blocks the move with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xephos Coronado dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


May is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Coronado shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Coronado not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Coronado is looking to take a break and control but May is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Coronado escapes and gets back to his feet.

Coronado gets a double leg takedown into May's guard.
Xephos Coronado has got the better of the ground game so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Coronado accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Coronado trying to move into half guard but instead May has managed to sweep!

May prevents Coronado from getting back to his feet.
May has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
May with a flurry of punches that miss.
Coronado manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. May manages to get himself to full guard.

Coronado missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Coronado has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Coronado avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Coronado decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on May, up you get!

Coronado gets tackled into the cage by May. May maintains the clinch.
Coronado is stalling here.

Coronado breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Coronado changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. May looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Coronado wants to lay and pray for a moment but May keeps working.

Coronado is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. May knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
May is looking to regain half guard here but Coronado keeps moving and retains side control.

A lull in the action here.
May defending against the ground and pound.
May is trying to improve his position.
May is not content to let Coronado control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Coronado postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xephos Coronado showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


May darts in looking for a takedown but Coronado gets double underhooks and turns May into the cage.
May changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Coronado tries to avoid it but May manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Coronado to the ground. Coronado escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
May shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Coronado counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Coronado.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew May. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Coronado has hold of one of May's legs. May is fighting the takedown attempt but Coronado gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coronado slips nicely into half guard.
Coronado perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Coronado looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

May manages to get to full guard.
Coronado advances to half guard.
Coronado seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Coronado stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Coronado closes the distance and clinches.
Coronado is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
May takes an elbow to the forehead.

May being controlled here momentarily.

May tries to free his leg and advance position but Coronado is retaining full guard.

Xephos Coronado is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Coronado kicks May off and gets to his feet.

Xephos Coronado comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Coronado has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
