PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donal Noye (ranked 611 p4p, 97 weight class) and Alexi Laiho (ranked 282 p4p, 43 weight class). Noye kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Horse the Band - Cutsman. Laiho has chosen Cold Sweat/ Thin Lizzy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Donal Noye has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donal Noye!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexi Laiho!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Laiho looking to score a takedown here. Noye is defending well but Laiho drives through and ends up in Noye's guard.
Laiho wants to control from the top but Noye keeps moving.
Noye avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Noye preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Laiho in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Noye utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Noye is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Laiho is working Noye over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Noye is trying to keep Laiho in close.

Laiho drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Laiho jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Laiho throws a strike but Noye rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Noye definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Noye got a little sloppy there for a moment and Laiho has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Noye has managed to get both his arms back between Laiho's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Laiho pushes Noye off looking to stand but Noye dives back in and keeps control.
It looks like Noye is going to stand back up.
The fighters are battling for position here. Laiho manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Noye not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Laiho had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Noye defends it easily.

Noye is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Laiho throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Noye tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Laiho is in Noye's guard.

Laiho wants to control from the top but Noye keeps moving.

Laiho has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Noye takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Laiho avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Noye throws a nice inside leg kick.
Donal Noye seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Noye swats away the attempt to clinch by Laiho.
Laiho on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Noye. Noye obviously looking to wear him down.
Noye throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Noye wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Laiho has him pressed against the cage.

Laiho lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.


It looks like Donal Noye has been cut.

Laiho drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Laiho prevents a body shot from Noye.
Laiho struggles to land a body shot inside as Noye controls his hands.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Laiho obliges.

Laiho swings wildly with an uppercut but Noye uses good head movement to avoid it.

Laiho is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Noye can't fight it off and eventually Laiho manages to take the fight to the floor. Noye looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Noye seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Laiho stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Noye swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Laiho is looking to improve his position.
Alexi Laiho has got the better of the ground game so far.
Noye content to control rather than advance.
Noye's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Noye in particular looking to stall.

Noye seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Laiho does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Alexi Laiho showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Laiho changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Noye tries to avoid it but Laiho manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Noye to the ground. Noye escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
It looked like Noye was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Noye throws a shot to the body.
Laiho connects with a nice looking jab.
Laiho has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
A slapping leg kick lands for Noye.
The fighters circling - Laiho throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Noye is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Noye takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Noye throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Laiho doesn't manage to clinch there - Noye circles away.

Noye tries to close the distance and clinch up but Laiho swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Laiho has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Noye clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Laiho is looking to control Noye's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Laiho avoid being mounted?
Laiho is looking for a sweep. Noye is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
