PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Sterntz (ranked 7566 p4p, 604 weight class) and Mr Four (ranked 6390 p4p, 547 weight class). The key to victory for Jim Sterntz has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jim Sterntz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mr Four!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sterntz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sterntz lands in his opponent's guard.
Sterntz trying to control the position from guard on top but Four is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sterntz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Four is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sterntz defends well.

Four working for a triangle but Sterntz defends it easily.
Sterntz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Four is keeping the position for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Four looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sterntz wants to get up but he can't break Four's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sterntz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Four has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sterntz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sterntz trying to control but Four is working from the bottom.
Four looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Four holds on and takes a little breather.
Sterntz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Four works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Four is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Four working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Sterntz.
Sterntz trying to control but Four is working from the bottom.

Four escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sterntz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sterntz throws a big right hand that misses.
Sterntz looking to pass the guard.
Four wants to sweep here but Sterntz controlling him for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sterntz wants to stand but Four is controlling his posture from full guard.
Four avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Four is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sterntz is aware though and is defending well.
Four keeping moving, preventing Sterntz from controlling successfully.
Sterntz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Four is pulling down on Sterntz's head. It's preventing any offense from Sterntz, at least for the moment.
Sterntz showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sterntz looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Four has a takedown stuffed.
Sterntz shoots in but Four avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sterntz darts in and clinches Four up against the cage.
Sterntz is looking to control Four's arms but Four gets an underhook and turns him. Now Sterntz has his back to the cage.
Sterntz stalling in the clinch but Four improves position.
Sterntz seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Four is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.
Four is looking to take this one to the mat.
Sterntz is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Sterntz stalls.
Four is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Jim Sterntz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mr Four.
Four changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sterntz fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Sterntz tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Four counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Four landing with the ground and pound.
Four lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Sterntz has momentary wrist control but Four slips an elbow through the middle.
Sterntz wants to sweep but no luck.

Sterntz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Four postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Four content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Four must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sterntz looking for a guillotine here but Four defends easily.
Four lands a couple of digs.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Sterntz has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Four should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Sterntz has tightened it up now! Four should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
