Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Alves (ranked 5347 p4p, 384 weight class) and Sammy Gravano (ranked 21212 p4p, 480 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sammy Gravano was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alves drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Alves tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gravano wants to get back to his feet but Alves drags him back down.

Alves is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gravano knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alves is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gravano has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gravano is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Alves asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Alves is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gravano is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Alves tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alves has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Gravano really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Alves has an Americana. Gravano didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Alves is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Alves hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
