Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Monroe (ranked 3200 p4p, 130 weight class) and Byron Tipton (ranked 4463 p4p, 179 weight class). Monroe comes to the cage accompanied by Deep Ocean - Island drumming. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
20 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Ricky Monroe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

14 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Byron Tipton!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monroe with a jab.
Monroe throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tipton stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Monroe throws a body punch but Tipton moves out of range.
Monroe connects with the punch.
Monroe paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Tipton staying out of range there.
It seemed like Tipton was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Monroe misses with a left hand
enabling Tipton to counter with a crisp jab.
A jab lands there for Monroe.
Monroe fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tipton manages to avoid it.

and Tipton counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Monroe feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Tiptons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Monroe closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Tipton throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
I was talking to Monroe's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Tipton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

It seemed like Tipton was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

and Tipton counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Tipton with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Monroe to score with a decent uppercut.
Monroe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tipton looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

and Tipton cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Monroe creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

The fighters circle momentarily. Monroe darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Tipton takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Tipton moves forwards but Monroe connects with a nice, crisp jab.

and Tipton counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Monroe lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Monroe stalks Tipton and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Tipton's face. Tipton staggers backwards, shaken.

Monroe is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Tipton.

Monroe lands a glancing blow to the side of Tipton's head.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Monroe! Tipton is backing up but he can't get away as Monroe lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Tipton and ends the fight. Great knockout.

A victorious Ricky Monroe thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
Byron Tipton was interviewed post fight and said 'I know I am only 24, but I am retiring. Obviously I dont have what it takes to become a champion, there is no reason to put my body at harm for something that I suck at.'.
