PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cleon Salmon (ranked 4427 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Vega (ranked 4646 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Cleon Salmon has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Cleon Salmon seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Salmon.
Vega darts in looking for a takedown but Salmon gets double underhooks and turns Vega into the cage.
Vega slaps away a takedown attempt from Salmon, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Salmon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vega but Vega pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cleon Salmon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Salmon misses with a low kick.

Salmon throws a wild body kick that Vega sees coming a mile off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salmon fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Vega is out of range.
Salmon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vega as he jumps to the side.
Salmon slaps away a takedown attempt from Vega, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Salmon looks for a takedown but Vega sprawls well.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Vega lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Salmon has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Salmon and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Vega takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Vega tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Salmon defends well and Vega ends up having to push Salmon into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Vega tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Salmon was well out of range. Poor timing from Vega.

Vega pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
No joy there for Salmon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Salmon.

Salmon gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Salmon is trying to trip Vega. He has hold of a leg but Vega is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Salmon persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Salmon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Vega tries to break free but Salmon pushes him back against the cage.
Vega has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Salmon avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Salmon fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Vega to the ground. Salmon is now in Vega's guard.
Vega really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Salmon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Salmon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Salmon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Vega has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Salmon escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Salmon!

Vega is looking to regain half guard here but Salmon keeps moving and retains side control.

Salmon tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Salmon has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That was a close second round but I would say that Cleon Salmon will probably get the nod.

As Vega looks to move away, Salmon throws a big counter combo but Vega just gets out of the way.

Salmon has had enough of the clinch but Vega keeps him there for the moment.

Vega wants to take the fight to the mat but Salmon manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Vega wants to break free but Salmon has control.

Salmon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Vega's guard.

Salmon takes a little break here. Vega wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Salmon stands up and beckons Vega to his feet.
Vega lands a nice hook to Salmon's body. Salmon takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Salmon scores with a one two! Vega had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Salmon doesn't manage to clinch there - Vega circles away.
Vega throws a head kick but Salmon moves out of range.
Salmon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Salmon counters with a three punch combo that has Vega backing up. Vega nods at Salmon to acknowledge the strikes.

Vega shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Salmon as he avoids it easily.

Salmon has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Vega clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Salmon controlling well, preventing Vega from escaping the position.
