Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hiram Petersen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Benoit!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Benoit drives through with a takedown into Petersen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Petersen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Petersen wants to get back to his feet but Benoit is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Benoit showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Benoit's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Petersen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Benoit leaves Petersen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hiram Petersen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Benoit drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Petersen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Benoit controls the pace.
Benoit looking to pass the guard.
Benoit stays in close to Petersen's body and controls the position.
Let's hope that Benoit has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Benoit tries to free his leg and advance position but Petersen is retaining full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Benoit is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Petersen shoots in for a takedown but Benoit shows good takedown defense.
Petersen throws a leg kick which misses Benoit's front leg but catches the back leg as Benoit tries to avoid it.

Benoit shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Petersen's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Petersen is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Benoit pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Petersen is keeping the position for now.
Benoit slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Benoit stands and throws Petersen's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on Petersen's face as Benoit controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Benoit dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Petersen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Benoit sprawls well. Benoit wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Petersen gets slowly back to his feet.
Benoit thinks about the counter body kick.

Petersen gets caught napping as Benoit dives in and scores a takedown. Petersen manages to retain guard.
Petersen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Benoit drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Petersen dives on top into guard.

Petersen keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Benoit's head.
Benoit has Petersen pulled in close to control his posture.
Benoit keeping moving, preventing Petersen from controlling successfully.
Benoit has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Benoit looking for a sweep. Not yet Benoit, not yet.
Petersen wants to control from the top but Benoit keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Benoit wants to sweep here but Petersen controlling him for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Petersen.

Benoit shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Petersen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Benoit has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Benoit staying calm.
Benoit advances to mount.

Benoit controlling the position easily from mount.

Benoit swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Petersen is now in Benoit's guard. A big mistake from Benoit there, giving up the dominant position!

Petersen wants to control from the top but Benoit keeps moving.

Benoit has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Petersen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ryan Benoit will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Benoit decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Petersen is trying to control but can't.
Well, if Benoit is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Petersen pushes Benoit off looking to stand but Benoit dives back in and keeps control.
Petersen is trying to get back to full guard.

Petersen wants to improve his position but Benoit is controlling well.

and Benoit counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Petersen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Benoit looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Benoit trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Petersen working for submissions but it's allowed Benoit to get to half guard.
Benoit perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

More stalling from Benoit.
Benoit is continuing to stall.

Benoit is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Petersen is just riding it out for now. Benoit eventually gives up the hold.
Benoit takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Benoit is pressing down on Petersen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Petersen is holding on for now.
Ryan Benoit has got the better of the ground game so far.
Petersen tries to kick Benoit off but Benoit keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Benoit displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Petersen.

Petersen shoots in but Benoit avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hiram Petersen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ryan Benoit is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hiram Petersen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Petersen gets caught flat footed, as Benoit shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Ryan Benoit comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Benoit has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
