PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Larsen (ranked 7086 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mashu Khan (ranked 5328 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dylan Larsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mashu Khan!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Larsen darts in looking for a takedown but Khan gets double underhooks and turns Larsen into the cage.
Larsen takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Dylan Larsen has been cut.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Khan.
Larsen tries to escape but Khan is in control.
Larsen sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Khan in particular looking to stall.
Khan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Larsen's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khan looks to land a strike but Larsen avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Khan wants to stand and escape but instead Larsen has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Khan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Larsen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Larsen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Larsen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Larsen makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Khan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Larsen defends it easily.

Khan has momentary wrist control but Larsen slips an elbow through the middle.
Larsen lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Larsen decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Khan, up you get!

Khan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Khan showed some decent athleticism there.
Khan is stalling here. Larsen is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Khan seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Larsen has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Khan is looking to regain half guard here but Larsen keeps moving and retains side control.

Larsen stands up and we're back to a striking position.

and Larsen counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Larsen.

Khan controls Larsen momentarily but Larsen frees himself.
Larsen wants to stand but Khan has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Larsen stands up and waves to Khan to follow him.

Khan is looking for the big counter here.
Khan swats away the attempt to clinch by Larsen.

Khan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Larsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Larsen has one foot on Khan's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Larsen misses with a jab, cross combination.
Khan wants to counter with a clinch but Larsen pushes him away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Larsen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Larsen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Khan unleashes a big counter combination but Larsen bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Khan lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Larsen at a distance.

Khan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Larsen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Khan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Larsen, who protects the arm well.

Khan throwing strikes but Larsen manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Larsen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Larsen has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Khan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Larsen pushes Khan off and scrambles back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Khan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Khan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Larsen keeps working.
Larsen wants to get back to his feet.
Larsen manages to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Khan is just content to waste time from the top position. Larsen takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Larsen is looking to stand up but Khan isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Khan counters with a three punch combo that has Larsen backing up. Larsen nods at Khan to acknowledge the strikes.

Khan drives through with a takedown into Larsen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Khan stands up out of Larsen's guard for a moment - Larsen manages to land a nice upkick.

Larsen has his feet on Khan's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Khan lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Larsen moves into the clinch.
Larsen tries to pull guard but Khan holds him up against the cage and eventually Larsen drops back down to his feet.

Khan jumps guard and drags Larsen to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Larsen drops back looking for a leg! Khan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Khan manages to kick Larsen off! Larsen jumps back into Khan's guard.

Larsen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Khan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Larsen has Khan in his guard.


Khan gets to his feet - Larsen follows without any prompting.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mashu Khan.
I think Larsen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
