The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Berry is looking to slow Halpert down with leg kicks. Berry gets in close and instigates a clinch. Berry breaks the clinch.
Berry looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Berry trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Halpert throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Halpert looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Berry loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Halpert keeping moving, preventing Berry from controlling successfully. Halpert keeping full guard, as Berry tries to pass. Halpert not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Halpert had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Berry is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Halpert Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Berry's back instead. Halpert looking to break Berry's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Berry remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Halpert will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Halpert looking for the RNC. Halpert looks gassed! Halpert doesn't have the hooks in and Berry manages to turn into his guard.
Halpert has his foot on Berry's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Berry works his way back into a safe position though. Berry wants to control from the top but Halpert keeps moving. Halpert looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Berry passes into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Berry stands up. Halpert with a lazy takedown attempt and Berry counters with a single leg into guard. Halpert didn't expect that. Berry sitting in guard, not really doing much. Berry looking to pass the guard. Berry's corner is telling him to maintain position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Halpert is looking for a triangle here but Berry uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Berry decides to stand back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Berry changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Halpert looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Berry creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Halpert takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. A control attempt from Halpert but he's now mounted! Berry content just to control the position here. A nice elbow there by Berry. Berry trying to control but Halpert is having none of it. Halpert is just holding on here. Berry manages to take his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Berry has Halpert flattened out and is raining down punches. Halpert turns into Berry and is now in his guard.

Halpert misses with a straight left. Berry drives through and clinches with Halpert against the cage.

Halpert drops back, looking for a kneebar! Berry looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Berry looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Berry! Phil Berry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Berry decides to stand up, so the ref orders Halpert to his feet. Berry shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Halpert but Halpert pushes him off and we're back to square one. Halpert shoots and misses so Berry counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Halpert is breathing heavily. Halpert trying to control the position.

Halpert working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Berry doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Berry manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Halpert is looking for a triangle but Berry pushes his legs off easily.

Halpert is fighting to maintain full guard but Berry has managed to sneak the leg through. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Berry connects with a nice short shot to Halpert's temple. Berry is keen to just control but Halpert is a slippery customer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Berry decides to stand up. Berry tries for a takedown but Halpert circles away easily and Halpert counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Halpert. Berry looking for a sweep. Not yet Berry, not yet. Berry is trying to keep Halpert in close.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Halpert fails with the takedown and Berry counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Halpert! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Halpert can't escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Halpert bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Berry seems keen to control Halpert's posture. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Berry doesn't succeed with the takedown and Halpert counters with a single leg into guard. Berry didn't expect that. Halpert slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Halpert throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Berry works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Berry trying to keep a closed guard but Halpert is proving a slippery customer.
Halpert wants to pass the guard but Berry is keeping the position. Halpert has gone for a leg lock! Berry slips out almost immediately though and dives into Halpert's guard. Halpert takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Halpert moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Berry controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Berry working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Halpert's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Berry stays in close to Halpert's body and controls the position. Halpert working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Berry doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Berry manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Berry has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Halpert is proving hard to escape from. Jim Halpert has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Berry is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Berry has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Berry might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Halpert has an active guard here but Berry has managed to pass into half guard.
Berry stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Berry gets the takedown into side control. Phil Berry is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Halpert tries to get back to half guard but can't. Berry decides to stand up, so the ref orders Halpert to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! Phil Berry showed his dominance in that final round. Well Berry has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
