PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reginald Juarez (ranked 25052 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan John (ranked 6225 p4p, 0 weight class). John has chosen Immortal as his entrance music. The key to victory for Reginald Juarez has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Reginald Juarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jordan John!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Juarez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
John has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
John wants to stand but Juarez is controlling the position.
Juarez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Juarez throws an elbow that misses. John uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Juarez's guard. Nice move by John!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
John would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Juarez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

John postures up.
John with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
John not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Juarez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
John trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
John wanted to stand there but Juarez had control of the position.
John is stalling in the full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
John chips away with some ground and pound.

John drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and John jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
John seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

John swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

John drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
John controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Juarez tries to regain full guard. Instead though, John has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
John sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

John shoots in and bounces Juarez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
John lands a couple of digs.
John keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Juarez's head.
John stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Juarez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
John passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

John is trying to get an arm triangle but Juarez is defending well.
John is working Juarez over with some ground and pound from side control.

John working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
John lands some shots froms side control.

John is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Juarez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

John tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no John has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

John goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Juarez has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for John but great work by Juarez.

John is trying to control Juarez's posture but Juarez avoids it.
Jordan John has got the better of the ground game so far.
John tries to buck Juarez off but Juarez is having none of it.
John can't do much from the bottom here.

Juarez is trying to get an arm triangle but John is defending well.
John gets back to half guard.

John is positioning himself well to prevent Juarez advancing to mount.
John is trying to control but can't.
John is trying is best to control the position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Juarez stops John from getting back to his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Juarez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and John defends it well.
John has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
John is pressing down on Juarez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

John is looking for a triangle but Juarez pushes his legs off easily.
John lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jordan John showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Juarez shoots in but no luck this time.

John is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Juarez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

John drops back looking for a leg! Juarez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Juarez manages to kick John off! John jumps back into Juarez's guard.
John is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
John is looking to advance position but Juarez has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

John sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
John holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Juarez scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
John controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. John manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Jordan John comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well John has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
