Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hector Perkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick James!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James takes a swing at Perkins's ribcage but misses.
James shoots and misses

and Perkins holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Perkins is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

James breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
James misses with a takedown
and Perkins counters with a nice body shot.
Perkins stuffs the takedown.
Perkins tries to counter by moving into the clinch but James manages to circle out of the way.
Hector Perkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick James.
A kick lands to the mid section there for James.
Perkins closes this distance looking for a takedown but James circles away.
James unleashes a big counter combination but Perkins bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James misses with a shot to the body
and Perkins makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
James swings for the body but Perkins moves out of range.
James throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Perkins's waist but Perkins gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing James off to one side.
James wants to slow Perkins down by chopping away at his legs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James misses with a double jab

and Perkins moves into the clinch.
Perkins pressing his opponent against the cage.
Perkins is trying to drag James to the mat but James just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
James can't get the takedown.

James has hold of one of Perkins's legs. Perkins is fighting the takedown attempt but James gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Perkins keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.
James is looking to work some ground and pound but Perkins has wrist control.
James throws an elbow that misses. Perkins uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in James's guard. Nice move by Perkins!

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Perkins's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perkins working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

James is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Perkins is aware though and is defending well.

James escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Perkins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Perkins throwing strikes but missing.
Perkins postures up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Perkins accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Perkins got a little sloppy there for a moment and James has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Perkins has managed to get both his arms back between James's legs - danger averted.
James has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Perkins lands a couple of elbows.

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Perkins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Perkins throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as James works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

James looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perkins chips away with some ground and pound.

James working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Perkins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but James is tightening it up a little... Perkins has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Perkins reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Perkins taps out! Nice BJJ there by James!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Rick James!
