Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Walton Pearson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derrick Vernon!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vernon misses with a head kick.
Vernon shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vernon showed some decent athleticism there.
Pearson wants to control but Vernon is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Pearson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Vernon.
Vernon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pearson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Vernon sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pearson defending well though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vernon stalling away here and it's allowed Pearson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Pearson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Vernon's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Vernon trying to control the position from guard on top but Pearson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vernon looking to sit in guard and control but Pearson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Vernon has his hands on Pearson's head, controlling the position.
Pearson stands up from Vernon's guard - Pearson perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vernon closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Pearson did well to prevent Vernon getting side control.
Pearson has one foot on Vernon's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Vernon throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Pearson.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pearson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pearson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vernon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pearson has closed the distance and engaged Vernon in a clinch.
Vernon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vernon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pearson.
Pearson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vernon, pushing him back against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vernon manages to break the clinch.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Pearson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Vernon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vernon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pearson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Vernon shoots in and bounces Pearson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Vernon trying to control but Pearson is working from the bottom.
Vernon stands and throws Pearson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vernon is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pearson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pearson struggling a bit here.
Vernon tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Derrick Vernon will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Pearson closes the distance and clinches.
Pearson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Vernon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vernon drops Pearson with a beautiful combination! Pearson stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Vernon is looking for the KO!
Pearson is rocked!
It looks like Walton Pearson has been cut.
Vernon cracks Pearson's jaw with two stiff jabs then ducks low and throws a soul-severing right uppercut to the mouth!! Pearson slumps to the ground with blood on his lips. The referee steps in before Vernon can do further damage! This one is done, son!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Derrick Vernon!
