PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barry Lawson (ranked 25233 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kainen Walker (ranked 6480 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kainen Walker was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Barry Lawson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kainen Walker!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Columbo Gatti and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker shoots in and gets a takedown into Lawson's guard.
Walker wants to pass the guard but Lawson is keeping the position.
Walker would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Walker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lawson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Lawson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lawson is looking to work some ground and pound but Walker has wrist control.
Lawson throws an elbow that misses. Walker uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lawson's guard. Nice move by Walker!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but Lawson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lawson wants to stand but Walker is controlling the position.
Walker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Lawson's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walker landing some decent shots from guard.

Walker wants to control from the top but Lawson keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Walker slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Lawson bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Walker darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Lawson kicks Walker off and gets back to his feet.
Walker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lawson.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Walker gets a takedown into half guard.
Lawson controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Walker trying to mount his opponent but Lawson defends it.
Lawson gets back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Walker gets to his feet. Lawson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Walker shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lawson's guard.
Lawson has control of Walker's left arm, preventing Walker from doing any damage.
Lawson controls Walker momentarily but Walker frees himself.
Lawson with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Walker can't handle though.

Lawson has his feet on Walker's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Walker looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Lawson!

Lawson sneaks out the side door and pushes Walker away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Barry Lawson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kainen Walker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lawson tries for a takedown but Walker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Lawson takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Walker shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
It looks like Walker is going to stand back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Lawson reverses the position - he's now on top in Walker's guard.

Lawson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Walker looking for a sweep. Not yet Walker, not yet.
Lawson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lawson works over Walker with some ground and pound from guard.

Walker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lawson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Walker wants to hit a switch here but Lawson passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Walker there!
Walker is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lawson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Walker can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Walker reaches up to try and control the position but Lawson seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Walker rolls and tries to escape and now Lawson has his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walker wants to escape the position.
Walker takes a big shot to the side of the head.

Lawson looking for the RNC.

Walker is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Lawson gets his way!

Lawson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Walker has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Walker just trying to survive but Lawson is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Walker wants to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barry Lawson dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Walker throws a lazy body kick
and Lawson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Walker closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lawson quickly recovers to half guard.

Lawson has one foot on Walker's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Lawson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Walker misses with a double jab
and Lawson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Walker throws a big shot that misses.

Walker darts in and clinches Lawson up against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lawson keeping moving, preventing Walker from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lawson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Lawson is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Walker presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Walker is trying to stall.
A frustrated look appears on Lawson's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Walker lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Barry Lawson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lawson missing with punches from the bottom.
Lawson trying to hold on to Walker's head to control him but Walker postures up.
Walker trying to control from Lawson's half guard. Lawson has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Walker takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lawson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but Lawson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lawson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Walker off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Walker tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lawson paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Lawson gets a double leg takedown into Walker's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lawson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Walker throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Lawson works over Walker with some ground and pound from guard.
Walker striking off his back but it's not causing Lawson any problems.

Walker working for submissions but it's allowed Lawson to get to half guard.

Lawson is trying to work for a kimura but Walker is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lawson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Walker doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lawson.
Walker is looking for a sweep. Lawson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Barry Lawson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lawson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
