PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between William Ritchey (ranked 1696 p4p, 59 weight class) and Igor Knyaz (ranked 3169 p4p, 117 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, William Ritchey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Igor Knyaz!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Alyssa Summers and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ritchey throws a jab when Knyaz was well out of range.
Ritchey avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ritchey throws a lazy uppercut
and Ritchey takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Knyaz looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Ritchey swings widly with a right hand
and Knyaz counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ritchey throws a sloppy body shot
and Knyaz counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Knyaz doesn't manage to clinch there - Ritchey circles away.
Ritchey's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Knyaz connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Ritchey scrambles back to his feet.

and Knyaz counters with a stiff right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ritchey misses with a takedown attempt
and Knyaz connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ritchey takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Knyaz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ritchey swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Knyaz tries to clinch but Ritchey is having none of it.
Ritchey throws a big counter combination but Knyaz scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Knyaz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ritchey, pushing him back against the cage.
Ritchey goes for a takedown attempt but Knyaz pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Ritchey closes this distance looking for a takedown but Knyaz circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for William Ritchey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Knyaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ritchey paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ritchey swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Ritchey throws a combination that misses
and Knyaz counters with a straight right hand.
Ritchey shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Knyaz sprawls well. Knyaz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ritchey gets slowly back to his feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Knyaz! But no joy.
Knyaz is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Ritchey had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Ritchey keeps the fight on the outside.

Ritchey decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ritchey is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Knyaz sees it coming and defends easily.

Ritchey is looking for a kimura but Knyaz is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ritchey to get the leverage.

Ritchey is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Knyaz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ritchey.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ritchey prevents Knyaz from standing back up.
Ritchey definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Ritchey is looking for a kimura but Knyaz is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ritchey to get the leverage.

Knyaz is defending against the submission attempts here by Ritchey.

Ritchey is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Ritchey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Knyaz is just riding it out for now. Ritchey eventually gives up the hold.

Ritchey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Knyaz is just riding it out for now. Ritchey eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Knyaz wants to get back to his feet.

Ritchey is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Knyaz has managed to free his arm - good work.

Knyaz kicks Ritchey off and gets back to his feet.
Knyaz tries to clinch but Ritchey is having none of it.
Ritchey just misses with a punch to the body.
A little jabbing left from Knyaz on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Ritchey swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Ritchey scores with a sloppy right hand. Knyaz should have avoided that one.


It looks like Igor Knyaz has been cut.
The fighters circling - Ritchey throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that William Ritchey will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Igor Knyaz's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ritchey throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Knyaz lands a jab to the nose.

Ritchey shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Ritchey seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Knyaz is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
