Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Road (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Johnson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Johnson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Johnson throws a low kick but Road avoids it.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Road sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Road clinches up with Johnson and pushes him back against the cage.
Road throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Johnson wants the takedown. Road is fighting it off but Johnson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Road's guard against the cage.

Road scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Road looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Johnson is fending him off so far but Road persists. Nope, Johnson circles away and we're back to standing.
Johnson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Road is looking for a counter combo.
Road will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Nick Road has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Johnson.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Johnson stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Road misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

As Johnson looks to move away, Road throws a big counter combo but Johnson just gets out of the way.

Road shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Johnson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Johnson explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Road gets a clinch.

Road breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Johnson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johnson wants it to stay on the feet.
Road uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Johnson has time to react.
Road throws a series of strikes that have Johnson backpedaling.

Johnson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Road is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Road has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Johnson is on him like a limpet, forcing Road back against the cage.

Road drops back, looking for a kneebar! Johnson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Johnson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Johnson!

Road tries to bench press Johnson off him but Johnson keeps the position.

Johnson decides to stand back up. Johnson steps back and let's Road get back to his feet.
Johnson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Road or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson, which made it look bad.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Road counters with a three punch combo that has Johnson backing up. Johnson nods at Road to acknowledge the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Road displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johnson.

Road has managed to clinch.
Road jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Johnson walks away with a smile on his face. Road gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Johnson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Road is trying to keep an underhook but Johnson manages to get the takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Road is not content to let Johnson control the position.
Road knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.

Road is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Johnson jumps into side control!

Johnson is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Road fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Johnson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Road manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Road is looking for a triangle here but Johnson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Road is looking for a sweep.
Johnson advances to mount.
Road sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Road manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Johnson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Road, up you get!

Road throws the kick towards the body but Johnson avoids it.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown but Road manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johnson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Johnson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Road manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Road closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Road lands in his opponent's guard.

Oh but Johnson is tightening it up a little... Road has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Road reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Road taps out! Nice BJJ there by Johnson!
