PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ray Fisher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lazy Bastard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lazy Bastard will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ray Fisher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lazy Bastard!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Michael Johnstone and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bastard tests Fisher's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Bastard scores with a jab to the jaw.
Fisher needs to keep his hands up - Bastard had a free shot at his head there.
Bastard misses with the combination.
Fisher walks into a left hand.
Bastard connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Bastard lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Fisher at a distance.
Bastard cracks Fisher with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Bastard swings for the body but Fisher moves out of range.
Bastard's coach down at King Of Pain was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Bastard's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fisher looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Bastard lands a really nice looking cross but Fisher seems unphased.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Fisher.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Fisher, right into the meat.
Bastard has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Bastard throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Fisher counters with a nice leg kick.
Fisher misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Fisher takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Bastard connects with a looping right hand.
Fisher definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Bastard gets caught napping as Fisher dives in and scores a takedown. Bastard manages to retain guard.
Fisher stays in close to Bastard's body and controls the position.
Bastard wants to stand and escape but Fisher is having none of it.
Bastard is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Fisher's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Bastard's jab looks to have found its range, popping Fisher under the eye.
Bastard scores with a punch to the head.

No joy there for Bastard, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Fisher half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Bastard is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Fisher connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Fisher is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Fisher has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Fisher passes easily into side control. Nice work.
A lull in the action here as Fisher stalls from top position.

Fisher prevents Bastard from escaping the position.

Fisher tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Fisher content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Bastard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fisher. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fisher tries to advance to mount but Bastard denies him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lazy Bastard dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Fisher attempts a counter takedown but Bastard avoids it well and moves away.

Lazy Bastard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bastard swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Bastard gets caught flat footed, as Fisher shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fisher controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Fisher seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bastard for as long as he can get away with.

Fisher is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fisher slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bastard scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Fisher doesn't seem bothered though.
Bastard looks to land a combination. Fisher sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Bastard moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Bastard scores with a hook to the body. Fisher takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Fisher takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Bastard cracks Fisher with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Fisher on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Bastard misses with a hook to the body

and Fisher counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Bastard is looking to stand up but Fisher won't let him.

Fisher looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bastard is one step ahead there.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Fisher might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fisher is working hard here to advance position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lazy Bastard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Bastard looks to land a combination. Fisher sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Fisher takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Bastard throws out a powerful jab.
Bastard slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Bastard sizes up Fisher with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

and Fisher decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bastard's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fisher is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Fisher stands and throws Bastard's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Fisher continues to stall.
Bastard wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Fisher is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Bastard will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fisher is trying to get an arm triangle but Bastard is defending well.
Fisher remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Bastard prevents Fisher from improving position.

Fisher is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Bastard is trying to escape and Fisher transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Bastard is forced to tap! Nice work there by Fisher! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ray Fisher!
Ray Fisher decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
