PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quinton Randleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Machado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machado comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Thunderstruck kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ricardo Machado was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Quinton Randleman!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricardo Machado!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Randleman looking to score a takedown here. Machado is defending well but Randleman drives through and ends up in Machado's guard.
Randleman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Machado can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Randleman controls the pace.

Randleman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Machado really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Randleman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Randleman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Randleman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Randleman is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Machado wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Randleman manages to pass to side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Randleman content to control rather than advance.
Randleman throwing shots but Machado is blocking nicely.
Randleman is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Randleman is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Randleman seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Randleman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Randleman working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Machado can do anything to dispel that myth.

Randleman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Randleman is landing with some decent strikes but Machado is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.


It looks like Ricardo Machado has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quinton Randleman dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ricardo Machado's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Randleman lands with an overhand left.
Machado lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Randleman circles away quickly and effectively.
Randleman moves away from the strike by Machado.
Machado gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Randleman lands a nice hook to Machado's body. Machado takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Randleman avoids the body shot from Machado.
It looked like Randleman was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Machado.
Machado misses with a hook
and Randleman counters with a straight right hand.
Randleman shoots in for a double leg but Machado sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Randleman closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Machado quickly recovers to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Randleman in particular looking to stall.
Machado scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Randleman manages to mount him!

Randleman landing strikes from the mount and Machado is in trouble!
Randleman has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Machado's face.
Randleman scoring with strikes but Machado is staying in there.
Machado is in a horrible position here. Randleman smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Machado is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Quinton Randleman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Randleman connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Randleman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Randleman here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
The referee warns Machado that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


That has opened up Ricardo Machado's cut even more.

Randleman lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.


Machado is rocked!


Ricardo Machado's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Ricardo Machado's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Quinton Randleman!
Quinton Randleman retains his heavyweight title!
In his post fight interview, Quinton Randleman started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
