PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rayder Garner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Draszen Ibisevicz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Draszen Ibisevicz will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Rayder Garner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Draszen Ibisevicz!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Garner fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ibisevicz to the ground. Garner is now in Ibisevicz's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Garner tries to free his leg and advance position but Ibisevicz is retaining full guard.
Ibisevicz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Garner showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Garner pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ibisevicz is keeping the position for now.
Garner stays in close to Ibisevicz's body and controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ibisevicz is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ibisevicz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Garner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ibisevicz tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Garner with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Garner controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ibisevicz wants to stand but Garner is controlling the position.
Garner is in close to Ibisevicz's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ibisevicz is trying to control the position but Garner postures up.
Ibisevicz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

It looks like Ibisevicz is going to stand back up.
Garner regains full guard. Nicely done.

Garner lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ibisevicz is looking for a sweep. Garner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ibisevicz tries to kick Garner off but Garner keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Garner takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Ibisevicz is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garner is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Garner tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ibisevicz knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Garner prevents Ibisevicz from standing back up.
Garner with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Ibisevicz wants to control but Garner is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Garner wants to pass to mount but Ibisevicz is defending the position.
Garner keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Ibisevicz is trying to stand up here but Garner is controlling him well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ibisevicz dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ibisevicz scores with a three punch combo!
Ibisevicz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

A combination from Ibisevicz does no damage.
Ibisevicz scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Ibisevicz throws the kick towards the body but Garner avoids it.
Ibisevicz tries a low kick but Garner avoids it.
Some bone on bone action there as Garner checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Garner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ibisevicz looking to control.
Garner is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Ibisevicz is looking to stand up but Garner isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ibisevicz wants to sweep here but Garner controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rayder Garner will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ibisevicz lands a nice shot to the body.
Draszen Ibisevicz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ibisevicz fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Ibisevicz lands a jab to Garner's midsection.
Ibisevicz misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Garner manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ibisevicz on his heels. He'll look to pass Ibisevicz's guard now, I'm sure.

Ibisevicz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Garner is one step ahead there.
Garner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Garner winds up and cracks Ibisevicz with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Ibisevicz pushes Garner off looking to stand but Garner dives back in and keeps control.
Ibisevicz tries to roll over but Garner keeps him under control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ibisevicz can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ibisevicz is looking to control Garner's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ibisevicz avoid being mounted?

Ibisevicz pushes Garner off looking to stand but Garner dives back in and keeps control.

Still in half guard, Garner seems content to control.
Ibisevicz is looking to improve his position.
Garner scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Rayder Garner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Garner is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Garner is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Garner's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Well, if Garner is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Garner working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Garner tries to pass to full mount but Ibisevicz defends it.
Garner prevents Ibisevicz from standing back up.
Garner is nestled in close to Ibisevicz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Garner here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Garner in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Ibisevicz tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Garner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rayder Garner!
A very excited looking Rayder Garner rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
