Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edvard Grieg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoel Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Grieg might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to In the Hall of the Mountain King. Yoel Mir has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edvard Grieg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Yoel Mir!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grieg finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Grieg attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Mir was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Mir avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Grieg swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mir wants to land a leg kick but Grieg is out of range.
Grieg looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Mir moves out of range of the strikes.
Grieg lands with a hook. Mir tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Mir connects with an inside leg kick.
Grieg lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Grieg.

Grieg closes the distance and clinches.
Mir tries to work over Grieg's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Grieg lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Mir breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Grieg takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Grieg misses with a wild body shot.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Mir! But no joy.
Grieg takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Grieg throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Grieg throws a leg kick which misses Mir's front leg but catches the back leg as Mir tries to avoid it.
Mir bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Grieg takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Mir throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Grieg quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Mir misses the shot to the body.
A little feinted left hand from Grieg on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Sloppy strikes from Mir. Those never looked like landing.
A bone on bone clash there as Mir blocks the leg kick.
Grieg lands a leg kick that knocks Mir off balance momentarily.

Grieg closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mir did well to prevent Grieg getting side control.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Grieg is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grieg lands with a punch from half guard.
Mir tries to kick Grieg off but Grieg keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Mir is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Grieg is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Mir is trying to stand back up but Grieg is controlling him
Grieg has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A nice leg kick lands there from Grieg.
Grieg throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Grieg misses the shot to the body.
Mir misses with a low kick.
Grieg feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Yoel Mir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Grieg.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Grieg counters with a single leg into guard. Mir didn't expect that.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mir can do anything to dispel that myth.
Grieg postures up and lands a big shot to Mir's brow.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Grieg's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Mir is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Grieg is controlling him.
Grieg passes Mir's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Mir tries to kick Grieg off but Grieg keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Grieg wants to free his trapped foot but Mir is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Grieg lands strikes from half guard.
Grieg seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mir does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Grieg decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mir's guard.
Grieg works over Mir with some ground and pound from guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Grieg's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grieg distracts Mir with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mir wants to stand but Grieg is controlling the position.
Grieg scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mir manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Mir scores with a nice short uppercut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Grieg turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Grieg manages to end up in side control.
Grieg prevents Mir from escaping the position.

Grieg is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mir knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Grieg thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Mir has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Mir lunges at Grieg with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Grieg's hand.
Yoel Mir is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mir keeps Grieg at a distance using the push kick.

Grieg wants to take the fight to the mat but Mir manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Mir feints and then cracks Grieg's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Grieg down.
Grieg throws a leg kick but Mir sees it coming and moves out of range.
Mir is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Mir does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Grieg just misses with a punch to the body.
Mir throws a hook but Grieg blocks it.
Grieg tries to counter with a takedown but Mir is quick to defend against it.
Mir throws a leg kick that misses.
It looked like Grieg was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Mir.
Mir lands a slapping body shot.
Mir tries to clinch up.
Grieg staying out of range there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Grieg counters with a slapping leg kick.

A close second round but Yoel Mir will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Mir pushes Grieg away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Grieg gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

After winning the bout, Edvard Grieg thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
