PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ken Rock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Baum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rock comes into the arena with Devlin-London City blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ken Rock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Baum!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baum tries to clinch but Rock is having none of it.
Rock uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Baum.
Rock shoots in looking for a takedown. Baum tries to sprawl out of it but Rock keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Baum manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rock shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Baum pinned against the cage. Baum gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
No luck for Rock with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Rock. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rock closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rock lands in his opponent's guard.

Rock prevents Baum from getting back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rock is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rock changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Baum tries to avoid it but Rock manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Baum to the ground. Baum escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck for Rock with that takedown attempt.
Rock is breathing heavily.
No joy there for Baum, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rock closes this distance looking for a takedown but Baum circles away.
Baum stuffs the takedown attempt from Rock. Rock gets slowly back to his feet.
Rock shoots in for a takedown but Baum shows good takedown defense.

Baum gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Baum's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Baum instigates a clinch.
Rock wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Baum has him pressed against the cage.
Baum is trying to break free.
Rock gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Baum.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Baum wants to break the clinch but can't.

Baum breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
No luck for Rock with that takedown attempt.
Baum lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Nice takedown defense from Baum. No joy for Rock on that attempt.

Baum shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Rock is squirming around, avoiding Baum's attempts to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Baum dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rock shoots and misses
and Baum counters with a good, hard body kick but Rock shrugs it off.

Baum shoots in and bounces Rock off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Rock scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Baum lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Rock doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Baum counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Rock is looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rock has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Baum is working away from the top position though.

Baum prevents Rock from standing back up.
Rock tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Baum is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Rock avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Baum.

Rock actively working from the bottom here.
Rock tries to get to full guard but Baum has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Baum scores with a hook to the body. Rock takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Ken Rock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rock tries for a takedown but Baum circles away easily
and Baum counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Rock. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Baum connects with a jab.
Rock with a lazy takedown attempt

and Baum counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rock's guard now.
Baum in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Rock wants to stand and escape but Baum is having none of it.
Baum is pushing down on Rock's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rock is fighting to maintain full guard but Baum has managed to sneak the leg through.

Baum is looking for a kimura but Rock is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Baum to get the leverage.
Rock is positioning himself well to prevent Baum advancing to mount.
Baum stalling.
Baum throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rock actively working from the bottom here.
Rock trying to control but Baum postures up.

Rock looking for submissions off his back.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Baum fails to land with a series of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Baum showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Rock with a poor takedown

and Baum counters with a shoot takedown. Rock fights it but they end up in guard.

Rock manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Rock shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Baum counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Rock gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Baum counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Baum.

Rock looking for a guillotine here but Baum defends easily.
Baum is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Rock has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Rock is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rock on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Baum. Baum obviously looking to wear him down.
Ken Rock has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rock swats away the attempt to clinch by Baum.
Baum dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Rock shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Baum counters with a left and a right that stings Rock.
Rock takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

and Baum counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Baum prevents Rock from standing back up.
Baum passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Rock!
Rock in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Rock wants to hold on but Baum pushes him away.
Baum trying to control but he's not successful this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
Adam Baum comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Baum has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
