PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sven Verdek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Norifumi Yamamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Norifumi Yamamoto was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sven Verdek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Norifumi Yamamoto!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yamamoto misses with a series of wild punches.
Verdek stuffs the takedown.
Yamamoto changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Verdek tries to avoid it but Yamamoto manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Verdek to the ground. Verdek escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Verdek looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Yamamoto!

Verdek looking to secure an arm triangle but Yamamoto defends it well.

Verdek has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee warns Yamamoto that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Verdek controlling the pace for now.

Verdek cracks Yamamoto with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Verdek prevents Yamamoto from getting the reversal.
Verdek looking to control but Yamamoto is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yamamoto tries to hold on but Verdek postures up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Verdek lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Verdek can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Yamamoto is looking to escape.

Verdek with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Yamamoto is looking to improve his position but Verdek isn't that keen on the idea.

Yamamoto shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Yamamoto was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Yamamoto is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Verdek has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Verdek!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yamamoto wants to control but Verdek postures up.
Yamamoto might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Verdek kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Yamamoto is breathing heavily.
Yamamoto gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Yamamoto tries to improve his position but Verdek has taken his back! Verdek has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Yamamoto tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Verdek pushes Yamamoto away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sven Verdek!
