PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nelson Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Castro De Mello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nelson Adam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Castro De Mello!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Adam tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but De Mello defends well and Adam ends up having to push De Mello into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Adam fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Adam drags the fight down to the ground.

De Mello gets to his feet - Adam follows without any prompting.
De Mello lands a glancing blow to the side of Adam's head.
Adam takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Adam with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling De Mello to score with a decent uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Mello throws out a powerful jab.
De Mello connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Adam momentarily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Adam bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in De Mello's guard.

De Mello wants to stand and escape but Adam is having none of it.

De Mello is looking to stand up but Adam isn't so interested in that idea.

De Mello is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Adam dives into side control.

Adam misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Adam controls the position.

Adam thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The strikes coming from Adam are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Adam tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Adam is chipping away with strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close round but Castro De Mello will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



A momentary lapse in concentration from De Mello enables Adam to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. De Mello manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Adam has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Adam drops back looking for a leg! De Mello is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and De Mello manages to kick Adam off! Adam jumps back into De Mello's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Mello can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Adam controls the pace.

Adam's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
De Mello is breathing heavily.
Further stalling from Adam.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Adam distracts De Mello with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Adam slips nicely into half guard.
Adam keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Nelson Adam overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Adam seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
De Mello really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Adam. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Adam seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down De Mello for as long as he can get away with.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Adam connects with a nice short shot to De Mello's temple.

Adam looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks De Mello with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

De Mello is rocked!
Adam is nestled in close to De Mello, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
De Mello is still in real trouble! Can Adam finish him?
Adam is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Adam thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
De Mello seems to have recovered his senses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Adam shoots in but De Mello avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Adam gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Adam stops De Mello from standing up.

De Mello has momentary wrist control but Adam slips an elbow through the middle.
Adam seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Adam is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
De Mello can't keep his opponent in guard - Adam advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Adam passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for De Mello!
Adam takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

De Mello takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Adam's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
