PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Granville Prince (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cole Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cole Savage will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Granville Prince!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cole Savage!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Prince drives through and clinches with Savage against the cage.
Savage trying to land knees to the body.
Prince will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Savage up against the cage.
Prince really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Savage has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Prince uses from the top position.
Savage wants to stand up but Prince is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Savage is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Prince is stalling in the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Savage not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Prince not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Prince seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Savage for as long as he can get away with.
Savage really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Prince. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Prince gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Savage goes for a double leg but Prince avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Prince continues to drive forward.
Prince tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Savage manages to circle out of the way.
Savage takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Prince moves into the clinch.
Prince is pressed up against the cage. Savage has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Prince down to the mat. Prince avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Savage misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Granville Prince has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cole Savage.

Prince closes the distance and clinches.
Prince leaning his opponent against the cage.
Prince dodges an elbow strike from Savage.
Savage wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Prince unloads a knee to the mid-section.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Prince misses with an elbow strike.
Savage jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Prince walks away with a smile on his face. Savage gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Savage throws the left hand but Prince avoids the punch easily.
It looked like Prince wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Prince fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Prince doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Savage closes this distance looking for a takedown but Prince circles away.

Prince shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Prince showed some decent athleticism there.
Savage looks winded!
Prince is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Prince decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Prince closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Savage did well to prevent Prince getting side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Savage has a hand on Prince's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Prince takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Prince stands up from mount. Strange move.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Savage closes the distance and lands a one-two.
A lazy body kick from Savage

and Prince counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Prince slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Granville Prince dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Savage shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Prince defends it nicely.
Savage tries for a takedown but Prince sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Savage swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Prince counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Savage is looking to stand back up but Prince counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Savage.


Prince is trying to work for a kimura but Savage is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Prince perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Savage is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Prince is looking for a kimura but Savage is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Prince to get the leverage.
Prince content to control rather than advance.
Savage wants to get back to full guard.

Prince decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Savage throws a sloppy head kick

and Prince counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Savage wants to get back to his feet but Prince passes into half guard.


Prince stands up from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Donk. Prince catches Savage right on the button with a cross.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Savage misses with a short punch on the inside.
Savage is trying to pull guard but Prince has him pressed against the cage.
Granville Prince has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cole Savage.

Prince gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Prince is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Savage wants to control the action here but instead Prince manages to pass to full mount!

Prince sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Prince looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Prince stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Savage throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A head kick misses from Prince.

Prince shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Savage wants to get back to his feet but Prince passes into half guard.


Prince stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Savage to get to his feet.

Prince moves into range and clinches up with Savage.
Savage on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Savage prevents a body shot from Prince.
Savage jumps guard but Prince stands there with Savage around his waist. Savage gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Granville Prince dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Prince throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Savage misses with a takedown attempt - Prince sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Prince gets the takedown into side control.
Prince is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Savage can do to turn this around?

Prince decides to stand back up. Prince steps back and let's Savage get back to his feet.

Prince forces Savage back against the cage and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Savage gets underhooks to prevent Prince's takedown attempt.
Prince has Savage pressed against the cage.

Prince has picked Savage up - he's going for a ride! Prince dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Prince postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Savage to stand up.
Savage misses with a wild combination.
Savage takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Savage throws a head kick but Prince moves out of range.
Prince shoots and misses
and Savage counters with a head kick. That will keep Prince thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Prince shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Savage sprawls well. Savage wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Prince gets slowly back to his feet.
Savage lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Granville Prince. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Prince has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Prince gets tackled into the cage by Savage. Savage maintains the clinch.
Savage tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Prince just stands there and leans against the cage.

Prince turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Prince stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Prince closes the distance and clinches.
Savage gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Prince.

Savage is fighting off a takedown attempt but Prince is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Savage to the mat. Savage regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Prince stands up and waves to Savage to follow him.

Savage tries to keep at a distance but Prince has taken the fight into the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Prince.
Savage tries for a takedown. No joy.
Savage is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Prince stalling in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Prince lands a takedown into guard.
Prince is standing up over Savage. Savage looks to escape but Prince dives into side control.

Granville Prince overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Prince thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Savage is trying to control Prince's posture but Prince avoids it.
Cole Savage has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Savage tries to buck Prince off but Prince is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Granville Prince showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Prince, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
