Derks has chosen The Reckless And The Brave as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nate Derks!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson misses with a hook.
Derks throws a hook to the side of Johnson's head but Johnson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Johnson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
We've been told by Johnson's head coaches at Vale Tudo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Johnson throws a body punch but Derks moves out of range.
Johnson scores with a jab to the body.
Johnson cracks Derks with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Derks ducks under a wild hook from Johnson.
Jack Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A jab from Derks finds it's way through Johnson's defenses.
Johnson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Derks moves away.
Johnson throws a lazy right hand but Derks sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Derks throws a jab but it's blocked by Johnson.
Derks throws a push kick but Johnson slaps the foot to one side.
Johnson cracks Derks with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Johnson slips under a jab from Derks.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Derks.
Johnson managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Derks.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom here.
The ground and pound from Derks seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Derks landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Derks lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The referee asks Derks politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Derks prefers to stall for the moment though.

Derks is working to tighten his grip on Johnson's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Johnson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Derks is really squeezing tight and eventually Johnson passes out! Derks breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Nate Derks!
Nate Derks is the new featherweight champion!
Nate Derks tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
