PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Blake Blazing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ewen Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis has chosen Atreyu-Ex's and oh's as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Blake Blazing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ewen Davis!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blazing throws a series of strikes that have Davis backpedaling.

Davis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Blazing's guard.
Blazing knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Davis on the ground.
Blazing avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Davis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
My spies in Brazilian Elite Team inform me that Davis has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Davis stops Blazing from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davis wants to control from the top but Blazing keeps moving.

Davis throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Davis cracks Blazing with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Davis wants to control the pace but Blazing is squirming around nicely.
Davis won't let Blazing get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Davis landing strikes, looking to finish!
Blazing wants to control but Davis is having none of it.
Davis throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Davis has hold of Blazing's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Blazing manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Davis is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Blazing has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Blazing!

Davis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Blazing is one step ahead there.
Davis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Davis holds on and takes a little breather.
Blazing trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Davis pulls Blazing in to control the position.
Davis is trying to keep Blazing in close.
Blazing has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Blazing keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Davis's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Davis seems keen to control Blazing's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Davis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Blazing can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Davis throws a sloppy head kick and Blazing moves out of range easily.

I wouldn't like to be where Blazing is right now.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Blazing wants to control but Davis postures up.
Davis tries to advance to mount but can't.
Blazing is looking for a sweep.

Davis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Davis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ewen Davis has got the better of the ground game so far.

Davis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Blazing has escaped the position, nice work there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Blazing is looking to regain half guard here but Davis keeps moving and retains side control.

Davis goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Blazing has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Davis but great work by Blazing.
Davis manages to get back to half guard.
Blazing trying to control the pace.
Davis wants to control but Blazing is keeping busy.

Davis tries to get to full guard but Blazing has control of the leg.
Blazing thows a huge punch but Davis dodges it nicely.
Blazing missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Blazing slips a nice elbow through Davis's hands, connecting with Davis's forehead.
Blazing throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Davis regains full guard. Nicely done.
Davis keeping moving, preventing Blazing from controlling successfully.
Davis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Blazing is stalling in the full guard.

Davis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Blazing gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Davis is trying to hold Blazing in close to prevent damage but Blazing has managed to pass into half guard.
Davis slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Davis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ewen Davis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Blazing's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Davis moves into range and connects with a jab.
Blazing misses the body punch

and Davis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Blazing won't be happy with that.

Davis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Blazing, who protects the arm well.

Davis swings around for an armbar but Blazing sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Davis's guard.

Davis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Blazing wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.

Blazing trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Blazing is looking to stand up but Davis won't let him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Davis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Blazing counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Davis shoots in for a takedown but Blazing shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Blazing lands a nice hook to Davis's body. Davis takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Davis has closed the distance and engaged Blazing in a clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Davis fails to land.

Davis has picked Blazing up - he's going for a ride! Davis dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Well, if Davis is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Blazing wants to control but Davis is keeping busy.
Davis stalling away here and it's allowed Blazing to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Blake Blazing has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Davis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Blazing has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Davis throws a big right hand that misses.

Davis passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Blazing is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Davis is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Ewen Davis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Davis winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
