Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mario Rodrigues (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Assad Abdullah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mario Rodrigues!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Assad Abdullah!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodrigues dives in for a single leg takedown but Abdullah sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.
Abdullah appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
A low kick from Abdullah is predictable there
and Rodrigues counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rodrigues thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Abdullah's head.
Rodrigues wants to advance to full mount but Abdullah doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Abdullah keeping moving, preventing Rodrigues from controlling successfully.
Rodrigues definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Abdullah controls Rodrigues momentarily but Rodrigues frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodrigues stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Abdullah swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rodrigues trying to control but Abdullah is working from the bottom.

Rodrigues throws a strike but Abdullah rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rodrigues is staying active underneath Abdullah, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Abdullah is looking to stall here but Rodrigues recovers full guard.
Abdullah wants to control from the top but Rodrigues keeps moving.

Abdullah is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

A close round but Assad Abdullah will probably get the nod.

Abdullah throws a right and a left that Rodrigues avoids nicely.
Rodrigues seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Abdullah throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Horrible takedown attempt by Rodrigues or perhaps it was just good defense by Abdullah, which made it look bad.
Rodrigues looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Abdullah is fending him off so far but Rodrigues persists. Nope, Abdullah circles away and we're back to standing.
Abdullah throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rodrigues tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Abdullah is in Rodrigues's guard.
Abdullah slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Rodrigues is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Abdullah drops back looking for a leg! Rodrigues is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rodrigues manages to kick Abdullah off! Abdullah jumps back into Rodrigues's guard.
Abdullah passes Rodrigues's left leg - he's now in half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rodrigues tries to roll over but Abdullah keeps him under control.
Abdullah is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Abdullah is keen to just control but Rodrigues is a slippery customer.
Abdullah wants to work for an arm triangle but Rodrigues is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Abdullah wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rodrigues keeps working.
Rodrigues is looking to control Abdullah's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rodrigues avoid being mounted?

Abdullah is looking for a kimura but Rodrigues is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Abdullah to get the leverage.
