The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Palelei. Those never looked like landing.
Palelei misses the jab.
Muller tries a quick counter leg kick but Palelei is wise to it.
Muller has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Muller lands a glancing blow to the side of Palelei's head.

It looks like Soa Palelei has been cut.

Palelei shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Muller's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Muller can do anything to dispel that myth.

That has opened up Nicolas Muller's cut even more.
Palelei feints and then cracks Muller's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Muller down.

and Muller counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Palelei tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Palelei is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Muller's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Muller doesn't manage to clinch there - Palelei circles away.

A little jabbing left from Muller on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Palelei goes for a double leg but Muller avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Muller continues to drive forward.
You can see that Muller has visibly slowed down as a result of the leg kicks

Muller uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Palelei.
Muller swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Palelei swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Muller.

Oooooh!!! Muller has knocked Palelei down with a huge combo! Muller steps away and waves a wobbly Palelei back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Muller walks into a stiff left hand from Palelei.

The cut above Nicolas Muller's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Muller goes for a small jab and connects. Now Muller goes in closer pressing the issue. Left hook, right straight! Palelei stumbles back but Muller runs in with a huge uppercut knocking Palelei to the ground! What a finish! You have to wonder if Palelei will ever be the same after a knockout like that.

During a confident post fight interview, Nicolas Muller thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
