The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Alexander looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Alexander breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Alexander stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Alexander swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Maia.
Alexander lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Maia is rocked!
Maia takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Alexander works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Maia is still on wobbly legs! Can Alexander finish him?
Maia has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Maia seems to have recovered his senses.
Alexander punishes Maia's body with a nice straight punch.
Marcellus Alexander seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Maia uses his free foot to push down on Alexander's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Alexander.
Alexander tries to hold on but Maia pushes him away.

Maia is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Maia extends the arm and Alexander is forced to tap!
