PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dustin Davidson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davidson's entrance music is August Burns Red - Meridian. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dustin Davidson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dick Tanner!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davidson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tanner fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Davidson has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Tanner clobbers Davidson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Davidson throws the kick towards the body but Tanner avoids it.
Tanner swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Davidson misses with a takedown
and Tanner counters with a nice uppercut.
Tanner has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Davidson.
Davidson shoots for a takedown but Tanner saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Tanner lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Davidson clinches up with Tanner and pushes him back against the cage.
Tanner looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Tanner breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Davidson tries to keep at a distance but Tanner has taken the fight into the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Davidson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Tanner prevents it.

Tanner will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Davidson up against the cage.
Davidson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tanner pulls his leg out and moves away.

Tanner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Davidson dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tanner. That did some damage!

letting Tanner counter with a right hand.
Dick Tanner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tanner on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Davidson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tanner tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Davidson is in Tanner's guard.
Davidson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Tanner wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Davidson tries to free his leg and advance position but Tanner is retaining full guard.

Tanner is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Tanner is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Davidson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tanner is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Tanner creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Davidson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Davidson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Tanner prevents it.

Tanner manages to break the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tanner pulls Davidson in close to his closed guard and prevents Davidson from doing any damage or advancing position.

Davidson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Tanner is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Tanner darts in and clinches Davidson up against the cage.
Davidson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tanner pulls his leg out and moves away.

Davidson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tanner moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Tanner! But no joy.
Davidson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tanner.

Davidson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Tanner defends well and Davidson ends up having to push Tanner into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tanner wants to stand up but Davidson is controlling him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Davidson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tanner's waist but Tanner gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Davidson off to one side.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dick Tanner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Davidson jumps guard and drags Tanner to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Tanner is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Let's hope that Tanner has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Tanner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Davidson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tanner has managed to get both his arms back between Davidson's legs - danger averted.

Davidson dives in for a single leg takedown but Tanner sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee is keeping an eye on Tanner - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Davidson throws a punch but it's blocked by Tanner.

Dick Tanner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tanner winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
