PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tim Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Simenkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hansen comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - Big Gun. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tim Hansen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 28 - 1, fighting out of New York, Sergei Simenkov!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hansen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Simenkov fails with the takedown.
Hansen appears to be looking for a big counter.
Hansen fails to land with a series of punches.
Simenkov throws a counter combo.

Simenkov has closed the distance and engaged Hansen in a clinch.

Simenkov has picked Hansen up - he's going for a ride! Simenkov dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Hansen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Simenkov pulls his head out easily.
Simenkov takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Simenkov throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Simenkov is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Hansen!
Simenkov lands a big elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Simenkov avoids the attempt from Hansen to control.

Simenkov wants to finish this one by submission but Hansen is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Simenkov.

Simenkov fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Simenkov landing strikes from the mount.

Simenkov goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Hansen is on top in guard.
Simenkov has his hands on Hansen's head, controlling the position.
Hansen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hansen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hansen continues to stall.

Hansen throwing strikes from guard but Simenkov blocks nicely.
Simenkov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hansen controls the pace.
Hansen wants to control from the top but Simenkov keeps moving.

Simenkov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Hansen has passed into side control.
Hansen trying to control the position but Simenkov is working away.
Simenkov struggling a bit here.
Simenkov manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hansen's best efforts.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Simenkov wants to control but Hansen is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hansen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Simenkov keeps working.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Simenkov misses with some strikes from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice shot by Simenkov.
Simenkov avoids a punch combination nicely.
Simenkov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hansen as he jumps to the side.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A clash of legs there as Simenkov blocks the low kick.
And Simenkov tries to counter it with a takedown but Hansen pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Simenkov tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Hansen throws a head kick that half lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tim Hansen will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Hansen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.


It looks like Sergei Simenkov has been cut.
Tim Hansen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hansen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hansen throws a head kick but Simenkov moves out of range.
Hansen tries to bum rush Simenkov with a series of wild strikes but Simenkov uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hansen avoids the head kick by Simenkov.

Simenkov gets the takedown into side control.
Simenkov is looking to take a break and control but Hansen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sergei Simenkov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hansen is trying to buck Simenkov off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hansen gets back to half guard.
Hansen tries to get to full guard but Simenkov has control of the leg.
Hansen looks like he's trying to stand up.

Simenkov is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Simenkov is trying to work for a kimura but Hansen is defending well.
Hansen has hold of Simenkov's hands but Simenkov slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Simenkov connects with a nice short shot to Hansen's temple.

Simenkov wants to pass to mount but Hansen is defending the position.

Simenkov is thwarting Hansen's attempts to control the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Hansen pushes Simenkov off looking to stand but Simenkov dives back in and keeps control.
Simenkov is trying to control. Hansen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hansen tries to kick Simenkov off but Simenkov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Simenkov is stalling here. Hansen is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Simenkov seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Hansen has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simenkov is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hansen connects with a decent elbow.

Simenkov wants to control but Hansen postures up.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tim Hansen will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hansen misses with a double jab.

Simenkov rushes Hansen and presses him up against the cage.

Simenkov breaks from the clinch.
Hansen throws a low kick but Simenkov moves out of range easily.
Hansen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hansen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Simenkov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hansen avoids it really well and circles away.
Simenkov wants to clinch up but Hansen keeps it at a distance.
Simenkov dodges the punch combination from Hansen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hansen throws a series of punches but Simenkov avoids them all with ease.
Simenkov tries to clinch but Hansen is having none of it.
Hansen thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Simenkov if he has to take too many more of those.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hansen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hansen.

Hansen pulls Simenkov in close to his closed guard and prevents Simenkov from doing any damage or advancing position.

Hansen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Simenkov looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hansen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Simenkov wants to improve his position but Hansen is controlling well.
Hansen stalling.
Simenkov is looking for a sweep. Hansen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Simenkov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hansen is working away from the top position though.
Simenkov is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Simenkov is looking to improve his position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hansen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Sergei Simenkov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Simenkov is looking to improve his position.
Hansen works his foot free and advances to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Simenkov is wriggling around trying to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tim Hansen showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hansen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
